Citing excellent stats such as median income levels, median home prices and availability of hospitals, our charming town of Fairhope, AL has topped the charts again as #14 of the Top 25 Places to Retire. I think the last time Fairhope made this list was in the 1990s and CNN Money was right again to add it back to the list!
Read the article for yourself here! I personally have my own list of why Fairhope is the best place to live/retire:
1) Sunshine year round
2) Local artists and retailers that are always smiling
3) Delicious restaurants
4) Sunsets sent from God
5) the new Publix Supermarket :)
6) the old Greer's Supermarket
7) Pelicans & Seagulls
8) Alligators seen from the bayway
What's on your list?

Well myyyyy goodness. We've made news again and this time with the Washington Post. This past sunday our fine state graced the Travel pages of the Washington Post in a wonderful article which takes readers on a journey to some of the lesser-known spots we call home OR what they call the "back roads of alabama."
The author, Clay Risen, explains that "there is a lot more to Alabama than pork and pigskins" through a trip he now takes annually to the Southern Writers Reading here in Fairhope. Fairhope is featured (and its many local hangouts - Page and Palette as well as Guy's Gumbo Shack) and Clay even makes a point that this town has long been a draw for intellectuals and creative spirits alike.
I'll let you read the rest of the article for yourself, but I do want to bring attention to Sam Mockbee, the creator of Rural Studio in Hale County. Mr. Mockbee established this world-renowned program through Auburn's Architecture program (of which my precious husband was a graduate and had the opportunity to see Rural Studio firsthand). Rural Studio essentially was established to show that good design should benefit and be available to ALL - rich and poor....AMEN! I'll talk more about Rural Studio one of these days and give you some amazing pictures of some projects but for now go and spread the word that ALABAMA IS TO BE PRAISED!
