Central- Well, Central is no longer considered a part of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They are now their own city. Central has about 26,000 residents. I've heard that Central might have some good schools also. They are Central Middle and Central High. These are the public schools. There are also a few private schools which include: Central Private School and Starkey Academy. Central has homes with a lot of acres and also offers your typical subdivision. Business and new construction seem to be booming in Central. Like a lot of parts in Louisiana, they are growing fast. This is another city where you get the best of both worlds. You are close enough to the city but at the same time have the feeling of living in the country.

East Brookstown- Brookstown is somewhat of an older neighborhood. It is bordered by Airline Highway to the east, Hollywood St to the north, McClelland St to the west and Evangeline St to the south.
Howell Park Golf Course Area- I've heard that this is a good neighborhood where you can get a great deal! It's located near the BREC Golf Course, and who doesn't love a golf course? Another good thing about this neighborhood is that most of the homes come with decent size yards.
Istrouma-Istrouma is definitely an older section of Baton Rouge. It is located near Exxon and is close to a lot of industrial businesses.

This is another one of my favorite areas that is growing by the day. This seems to be the area that I work the most in. Most people want to live in the Shenandoah area and I don't blame them because it's beautiuful. This area is a combination of older and newer homes with a bit of new contstruction going on. My favorite new neighborhood is Hoo Shoo Too Lakes. It's absolutely beautiful. The houses are so unique. The neighborhood isn't finished yet but homes are being sold fairly quickly.
Coursey Blvd- Coursey Blvd is loaded with everything you need. From Wal-mart to Canes to Walgreens to several Mom and Pop stores on the Blvd. There are also several apartment complexes, condos and duplexes on Coursey. Some of the neighborhoods are:
Parkview Oaks
Hickory Ridge
Carrington Place
The Villas
O'neal Lane- This is another area that's buzzing. A lot of these homes are somewhat older. O'neal runs into Coursey Blvd. There are several shops, fast food joints, restaurants, businesses, hospitals, daycares and more on O'neal. Coursey and O'neal both give each other a run for their money. They are both really "happening". There are also several townhomes and duplexes on O'neal. Actually, for about a good mile that's basically all there is on both sides. Some of O'neals neighborhoods are:
White Oak Trace
Wedgewood
Centurion Place
The Woodlands
Oneal Place
Shenandaoh- Shenandoah is THE area. So many people are in love with it. It's a very large neighborhood that contains over 2000 homes. Most of Shenandoah is off of Jones Creek Rd. On Jones Creek road, (which runs into Coursey) there are several areas to eat, shop and do business. A new Shenanodah neighborhood is Green Trails. It's considered to be very upscale with several ammentities. It's definitely luxury living. Green Trails is where the old Shenandoah Golf Course used to be off of Jones Creek.
White Oak- This is another large subidivision that is beautiful. It's located near Shenandoah. The good thing about White Oak is that it offers large homes with large backyards. If you are looking at newer homes, then you have noticed that it's hard to get a backyard because the homes are so close together.
Broadmoor- This is a very beautiful, older neighborhood located off of Sharp and Old Hammond. I have driven through Broadmoor several times and just love the atmosphere. This is another neighborhood that offers that "homey" feeling. The Broadmoor community is very involved with a strong Home Owners Association. What's neat about Broadmoor is that this year they have a 2008 priority project. This is where the community got together and compiled a list of issues they saw as most important regarding their neighborhood. They are:
1. Membership Drive
2. Fundraising for a New Sign
3. Neighborhood Watch
4. Traffic Calming
5. Enforcing Restrictions
So, it's pretty obvious that this community is very active. They keep the residents active by holding events, projects and even picking a yard of the month. If you are looking for a place to make you feel at home, Broadmoor just might be the one for you.
Sherwood Forest- I have a special place in my heart for Sherwood Forest. In my younger years and after I moved from the LSU area, this is where I basically lived. Of course, at that age I was living in apartments. Sherwood is filled with apartment dwellers up and down the strip.Sherwood Forest is convienant to the Interstate, restaurants, stores, businesses and more.
The Sherwood Forest neighborhood is a nice size neighborhood, like Broadmoor. Both of these neighborhoods are much older but are still nice. Every time I pass through the neighborhoods are well kept and you can always see people strolling their children or walking their dog.

Park Forest- Park Forest is a nice, large neighborhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Most of the homes seem to be less than thirty years old. Park Forest is home to many small homes. If you are one that likes to have easy access then Park Forest might be the neighborhood for you. There are several schools, stores and businesses around the area. Park Forest is located around Sherwood Forest and Greenwell Springs Rd.
Monticello- Monticello is also convenient to schools and businesses because it is linked to Park Forest.
Villa Del Rey & Red Oaks- Both of these neighborhoods are close together. This is a much older neighborhood. The homes are somewhat small. These neighborhoods are close to the Cortana Mall which includes a strip mall with: Office Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy and a fun shoe store.
