Baker- If you are looking for a small town atmosphere, then Baker might be the place for you. Baker's population is around 13,483. It's in the metropolitan area of Baton Rouge. Baker really has that 'home town' feeling. It's close enough to the city where you can enjoy all the action but it's far enough away where you can have some peace and quiet. Baker is a family-friendly city known for it's many attractive and well-planned neighborhoods.
Residents of Baker are known to enjoy the easy access to a variety of community services. Some of the community services are the Baton Rouge Zoo and several churches serving all denominations. Baker has a great amount of "Green Space" with over a dozen parks totaling 1000 acres. In Baker, a park is located within every two miles of a home. The City also features several hiking trails and nature paths.
Zachary- Zachary is ten miles north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Like Baker, it offers the convenience of a metropolitan area but with all the benefits of a small town. The cities population is about 14,000, which is just a bit more than Baker.
So, what's the best thing about Zachary?Well, it's their school systems. Academically, they are ranked number one in the state of Louisiana. Zachary's school system is what draws so many people in. That's not the only great thing about Zachary though. New subdivisions are being built also with affordable housing in every price range.

Area 60 & 61 are pretty close to home for me. That's probably why I like them so much. It's close to the Jefferson area, which is my absolute favorite. Well, I think I have a lot of favorites. It's just Baton Rouge. It's a great place to live. It has so many different areas to choose from, so much culture and so much life. Here are some of the areas in 60 & 61:
Mid-City Baton Rouge- Mid-City is somewhat bound by I-110 on the west, College and N. Foster on the east, Choctaw to the north and I-10 to the south. There are several neighborhoods in Mid-City like the Garden District, Ogden Park, Capital Heights, Bernard Terrace and more. Mid-City is home to the historic Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Mid-City is becoming extremely popular again due urban renewal.
Goodwood/Tara- This area is located between Airline Hwy and Jefferson. It's an older neighborhood. I would say that a good percent of this area are older homes. There really isn't any room for any more homes to go. I did read that some homes were destroyed to make room for newer ones. This area is the perfect place to live because it's right in the middle of everything. It's easy to find a store, restaurant, hospital, shopping center and more.
Bocage- This is another one of my favorite areas. The Bocage area has a mixture of luxury and casual living. A new condo community, The Reserveis located right off of Corporate Blvd. They are extremely nice and offer the finer things. My favorite about this area is Bocage Village and the new Towne Center. If you haven't been to the Towne Center, it's a must. It's an strip mall with many upscale stores. They even have Whole Foods and a Chocolate Factory. Yummy!

Area 53 is a lovely area. It is actually home to the wonderful Baton Rouge Country Club of Louisiana. Some of the neighborhoods that call Area 53 home are:
Country Club of Louisiana- This place is extremely breathtaking. Some of the most luxurious and fabulous homes are in Louisiana's Country Club. The Country Club is located off of Highland Rd. Of course, you can't drive by and see all the beautiful homes unless you can get in the gated community. The golf course and awesome homes are two reasons why everyone would love to live in this upscale community. They are still wonderful homes surround the Country Club, so it would be a treat to either live it or even around it.
University Club Plantation- This is another upscale neighborhood that is close to the LSU golf course. The University Club is a 1200 acre community offering a luxurious atmosphere with a golf course. It is situated between the Mississippi River and the Bayou Manchac. They offer great views, privacy, swimming and tennis facility, beautifully landscaped and 300 beautiful acres bordering protected wetlands.
Kesington Estates- Kesinton Estates is an upscale communitylocated in the southeastern part of Baton Rouge. It is off of Perkins Rd, between Siegen and Highland. The best feature about Kesington Estates are the treed lots. This community is known for having a strong Home Owners Association board. Homes in this community range from $200,000-1,000,0000.
Gardere/Burbank- This is an area off of Gardere Lane. It is located between Nicholson and Highland Rd. Gardere/Burbank is home to several small neighborhoods. This seems to be an older area of town. Most of the homes in Gardere/Burbank are somewhat small.

The Southdowns area is an older area in Baton Rouge that is located between Perkins Rd and Bayou DuPlantier. It is also between the University Lakes and Pollard Estates. To make it easier to find, it's located to LSU and Downtown Baton Rouge.
Even though this neighborhood is older, it has continued to rise in value due to homeowners having maintained their homes. Did you know that some of the Southdown homes are within walking distance to University Lakes? University Lakes is so beautiful. It really adds warmth to the neighborhood.
A fabulous neighorhood in Southdowns is Southdown Gardens. The subdivision was built in 1999. There are about 23 homes in the neighorhood. It is located between Acadian Blvd and College Drive.
I'd say that the coolest thing about the Southdowns Area is Mardi Gras. Did you know that Southdowns has their own parade? It's actually called the Baton Rouge Krewe of Southdowns. How neat is that? Can you imagine living in Southdowns and having front row seats to an awesome parade?
Southdowns is also close to many great restaurants, like Jubans. There is also a popular lounge called Southdowns that is right off of Perkins. Also, right across from the Southdowns Lounge is the Southdowns Gym. So, you can go get a good work out, have a good dinner and have a few drinks all in the same shopping center.

The Highland Road area is simply breathtaking. It really is a fabulous area. I love driving down Highland and looking at all the beautiful trees that stalk the road. For some reason, it always reminds of of the movie "Steel Magnolias". Where is Highland located? It runs through College, Siegen and Essen Lane.
There's nothing like taking off on a beautiful Sunday to go house looking on Highland. Personally, I think Highland is home to some of the most prettiest homes in Baton Rouge. There have been many times where I go out of my way to ride down Highland just to bask in the beauty. It feels like home, a little bit of country and city all in one.
Highland Rd. seems to be home to older homes and neighborhoods. New construction didn't bypass Highland though. It is progressing and growing just like all other areas in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. What are some of Highlands neighborhoods? I thought you'd never ask!
The Lakes at Highland
Woodstone
Woodgate
Lakeside
Fair Oaks
Heritage Estates
These are only a few neighborhoods that call Highland home. There are several other subdivisions that Highland Rd has to offer. There are also several apartments and luxury living in the Highland area.
