I had the experience of a gentleman asking me multiple questions today at the foreclosure auction, I had asked him what he does for a living (he never ever said he was a licensed agent) I guess he doesn't do that for a living just a hobby (LOL), then I ask him for his business card he hands me a contractors card / development business card. He begins to ask me for my data base and I tell him it is a paper file, he ask me multiple questions about statistics and the MLS statistics, and I answer them all, he tells me he is a developer and wants to flip houses, I am a bit squeamish about flipping in todays market, not that it cant be done, you just have to be fully aware of each neighborhood and all the surrounding elements you plan to flip in. He's taking notes on all my comments. He then ask again can you share your data base with me? I tell him it is hand written and not in a digital file. He starts the conversation again about statistics, then ask one more time for my data base, I am thinking something is off here, now I feel stalked by him, I tell him it is not available in a format to share, he ask if I can scan my hand written foreclosure information. I say no; again. As we walk away together both of us heading for our own separate lunch appointments I ask him if he is going to sell by owner (F.S.B.O.) or if he has a Realtor he works with? Then he says oh I am a licensed Realtor! I am with **** company, I was horrified he asked me so many questions about the MLS, information that he could have done the research himself. He never once disclosed he was an Active Licensed Realtor. We have such a small community on Maui and even a smaller Real Estate community. I am sure we all want a deal and that we all want the best deal possible, I know I do, yet withholding the status of your Real estate license is against the code of ethics.
My data base is available for the right reasons, to the public, present and future clients. Most of my data base is on paper and not in a digital format. Honesty could have gotten him some help.
