New foster on Friday the 13th!

My husband and I work with the Animal Adoption League in York County, SC. My husband was reading AAL emails during the week when a notice came out for an Alaskan Malamute due to die on 03/13/2009 at 5pm. We are malamute people, this is our favorite breed, we have 1 now that we show. I have had pictures of Zeus on my blog before, he is the apple of our eye! Anyway, my husband could not let anything bad happen to this gorgeous guy so I picked him up just a few hours before his scheduled time of death. Friday the 13th is not always an unlucky day....just ask Echo! He is searching for his forever home so if you know of someone looking for a goregous, very large dog give us a call! Numbers are below.

Tales of a Foster Mom

We got out of the truck to JUST look at the group of 8 pups...we will take pictures and post them on the internet. We get out there and realize that we can not leave this bunch! I was born and raised here and am still shocked and very upset that people that were also born and raised here live like wild animals themselves. Trying to help educate people seems pointless but we still work out hearts out to get through...just a little.

Thank heavens I won't have to take all 8 home with me, my friend will also share in the pleasure of this crew of wild kids! I get my four home and they are just adorable and sweet, the next day they are relaxed and full of themselves and have turned into quite the bunch of he*lraisers. Two days later I look down at my legs...holy cow, it looks like I have been wrestling with barred wire!

I pray for fast adoptions but not so much with homes in our area, I don't want to have to worry if the new parents will do the right thing and take care of there charges like they say they will. Thank goodness Alicia calls about transport to Illinois where the pups will find good homes. From what I have heard and read people tend to care for their pets in other parts of the country. Heavens knows this crew will have to have someone that will be patient with them, they are HIGH ENERGY!!!!

I spend a lot of time with these babies this week, trying to socialize them and make them act like they have a little sense. Oh, did I tell you that what their parents are? The mom looked to be yellow lab/pot belly pig mix and the dad is a border collie/jackalope mix and this is exactly how my crew acts! I truly love them to pieces, they are so much fun in a painful and bloody legs kind of way. They are fast learners, they can sit when told to do so and of course if they can see the treat I am holding just out of reach. They have not had many accidents in the house, we go outside about every 30 minutes...dang, more bloody legs from those shape little teeth and nails!

Well Friday arrives and the transport is not fully put together yet...looks like I will have them for another week! I am happy, they are running me ragged...maybe I'm just delirious from lack of rest. When the babies are asleep I get to try to clean up what they just tore up, I wish I had just a little of that energy!!!!

Well, transport is happening! I have to have all 8 pups in Charlotte at 5:15AM Saturday morning. I'm excited that they will have a chance at a GREAT life now! I am very sad for me, I get VERY attached to all of my fosters and one particular baby has been trying her best to talk us into keeping her but we already have 5 big dogs, 4 cats, 2 birds, 2 rabbits and numerous fish.

I take the crew to the first leg of the transport, wow, Reg and Jeff and very nice and excited about driving the kids to the next leg. I put my sweet babies in the kennels and say good bye and cry all the way home. I am writing this and crying, I just want my babies to be safe and happy.

I cannot remember how many fosters I have had, there are too many to count but I do know that I have cried every time they have left me. My tears are tears of joy that they will all have great lives and if I didn't go through this heartache every time would mean that someone did not get rescued and will have to live a life of pain and suffering...because some human could not do the right thing my their one true and faithful friend.
