There are a couple facts about living in the Tulsa area. It get's cold and we have critters and insects. You put the two together and the critters and insects start to move in to the house where it is nice and warm.
Be prepared for the cold weather to come, if you haven't already sprayed your home for insects and spiders, do it NOW! The insect spray that you buy at Lowe's or Home Depot isn't potent enough, from my experience. You can go to a place called Lesco 918-665-6811, its at 10825 E. 55th Pl. There you can purchase a product that the professionals use, just follow directions and you will be on your way to protecting your home from invading insects and spiders. It works!
While at Lesco, you can pick up sticky mice traps, not saying you have mice but you can never be too safe. Those mice try to get where it is nice and warm when winter hits. Pick up a case, you can use them for spiders too.
Maintenance wise, make sure all of the cracks around your home are sealed, exterior gaps between brick and door jambs, make sure your garage door is sealing properly, etc. This will reduce the amount of critters/insects that make it in to you home.
Have a Merry Christmas!

What to do when the cold weather hits, there are many hazards that come about during the winter and the holidays.
Vacationing for the holidays: Make sure to turn you water heater down, you aren't using hot water but your hot water heater doesn't know this. Many hot water heaters have a vacation setting, if not, turn it down to warm or low. You will save money!
Also depending on how long you are gone for, you may want to turn your water off at the main shut off. I just recently had a client call me and inform me that they had a leak, a neighbor called them and told them that there was water pouring out from underneath their garage door down the driveway! YIKES! This had nothing to do with freezing pipes, an unforeseen leak occurred and their entire house was filled with water, it only takes one leak while you are gone for three days to ruin a great holiday! While we are talking about FREEZING......
Keep your home thermostat set at 55 degrees, turn it down from the normal 69-72 degrees, this will save you money on your heating bill and lower the risk of your pipes from freezing.
Have a safe and fun Thanksgiving!

This is my families favorite time of year! The weather starts cooling down, leaves begin to change color, and the holidays are coming! Right now is a good time to have your furnace inspected and serviced. The COLD weather is coming!
AirOne is a great company that I have utilized for several years, Shane will take good care of you, he is very knowledgable and professional! You can contact him at 918-857-5522.
If you are looking to sell your house during the winter months, you will need a few things. A good realtor(Me), a few bags of salt for the driveway and sidewalk, a furnace that works, keep your house warm even if it is vacant, and a mat next to your door so prospective buyers can take off their shoes while viewing your house.
Have a great week!
It is vital to have home inspections conducted by a professional that is concerned for your well being, not just there to get the deal done. I would suggest conducting a full home inspection, utilizing a structural engineer, a licensed EMP inspector, and a termite company which will look at wood rot and pest control. Alarm and fireplace are optional as well, these are free of charge. Your initial investment will range from $500-$600 depending on your area.
In the Tulsa and Surrounding areas I would suggest utilizing ACL Home Inspections. This company is thorough and dedicated to you. Ash is the owner and the contact. (918)521-3818.

The government has bailed out their third company this month. AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac have all been bailed out in hopes to assist our nations economy. I personally feel that the government should have left it alone so our economy can take it's natural cycle. We may be in for a longer housing slump with these bailouts. The government has only put off the inevitable, so what should we expect in 2009? As for Tulsa, OK I feel values will remain strong, continuing to grow. Oklahoma has been growing at a consistent 4%-6% for several years. Unlike the west coast which saw spikes of up to 20+% growth in values, what goes up must come down sometime........... I would love to hear what you have to say on the situation. If you are in a market that is failing and you are looking for affordable living and one of the top 10 economies in the nation, consider Tulsa, OK. I can be your resource. Have a successful day! |
