MPPA Police Chase 4Mile run and walk.

Beginning October 11, 2008 will be a day full of fun. Where else in Wisconsin can you run and walk with the police in a chase race, and raise money for the American Cancer Society? Let Manitowoc Wisconsin come up in your head first. The objective is not to let the police catch up with you or even beat you to the finish line! Can you say addrenaline?

Here is some general information you may want to write down. The race will start and finish by The Silver Creek Park Field House off of South 10th Street in Manitowoc Wisconsin at 9:00 AM (Rain or Shine). The course will run through city parks, grass, gravel, trails, and through a quiet residential neighborhood with a spectacular view of Lake Michigan.

All participants will receive a long sleeved t-shirt. Same day registrants may have to pick up t-shirts at a later date. Early registrations have a dealine of September 30, 2008 of $13.00 which is non-refundable. Same day registration fees are $18.00 between 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM at the Silver Creek Field House.

Manitowoc Professional Police Association

The MPPA is non-profit organization consisting of law enforcement officers with the Manitowoc Police Department. Their goal for this event is to raise money to help support the American Cancer Society.

September 20, 2008 The 22nd Walk for kindness to benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. The Walk for Kindness starts at 9:30 a.m. There will be a 2 mile walk and a 4 mile walk. Both walks start and end at the Lakeshore Humane Society located at 1551 North 8th Street in Manitowoc Wisconsin. The registration fee is $25.00. All registration fees include a banana, bagels, fruit, juice, and dog treats.

Pledge incentive prizes. Pledges of $100 or more receive an event T-shirt. The Top Fundraiser will receive an overnight stay at the Midway Best Western in Green Bay Wisconsin, dinner for two, and a spa basket. The second Top Fundraiser will receive an overnight stay at the Midway Best Western in Green Bay Wisconsin. The third Top Fundraiser will receive dinner for two. The Lakeshore Humane Society is asking to collect pledges from family and friends and help support their homeless animals.

Found in 1975, The Lakeshore Humane Society has remained private, non-profit, and FULL SERVICE. In addition to finding quality homes, they provide many services to the more than 1800 animals that enter the shelter annually. Some of the special programs that have been developed to assist animals and the community are:




1) Help to reunite lost pets with their owners, answer questions, provide loving homes for animals and follow up on past adoptions.
2) Respond to private citizens and law enforcement to assist with animal related problems.
3) Spay/Neuter financial assistance program to limited income pet owners.
4) Provide pet therapy visits to nursing homes.
5) Provide humane education programs to schools and organizations.
6) Offer dog training programs for shelter animals and dogs with behavioral problems.

The City of Manitowoc Street and Sanitation Committee has scheduled Smoke Testing of the sanitary sewers in your area of the City. Smoke Testing is the process of pumping LiquiSmoke into the sanitary sewer system to check for defects in the system. The smoke test survey will assist the City crews in locating breaks and defects in our sewer system.

The smoke you may be see coming from the vent stakes on houses or holes in the ground is NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING, HAS NO ODOR, WHITE TO GRAY IN COLOR, AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD. The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps. It is advisable for the home owner to pour a gallon of water into each floor drain prior to our testing. If smoke enters your building it is reasonable to assume dangerous sewer gases are also entering your home or business. You should evacuate immediately and notify our work crews. If you are not home and discover smoke when you return, please call us at 920-374-0413.

Work crews will be in your area starting Monday, September 8, 2008.

IMPORTANT! If there is any individual in your home or business who has respiratory problems and is immoble, please notify the City of Manitowoc Engineering Department, at 920-686-6910 prior to testing.

As a matter of fact, the customer service is so good at Lowes Home Improvement, if the product your looking for is not on the floor; the sales specialist whom happens to be working that day has ALWAYS called me back, therefore increasing their revenue because of the items I purchase.

The quality of the merchandise at Lowes is TOP quality. Manitowoc citizens should be able to purchase higher end, middle end, or lower end products of their choice. Menard's...well, one word sums it all up; Wal-Mart is the first word that comes to mind. At Menard's, you will find low end, Wal-Mart type products, where customer service is virtually non existent.

Lowes Home Improvement also has a low price guarantee. For example, if you find the same in-stock product at a competitor, Lowes will not only match the price, but also beat it by 10%. If a customer would like to special order a product, Lowes will match the price should they happen to be higher (in a rare case).

I have personally purchased 2 toilets, 2 ranges, & large living room rugs. The Manitowoc Wisconsin store has 160,000 sq ft. of store in total. The garden department opens late April and stays open through October. As of todays date, all big box competitors, Menard's, Fleet Farm, Wal-Mart, & Shopko have allready shut down their garden center weeks ago

The moral of the story is, if you haven't been to Lowes because you just resist change, your missing the best home improvement store in all of Manitowoc County. From flooring, to plumbing, to hardware, to tools, to appliances; you name and if Lowes doesn't have it, they can almost always get it.

I was 23 years old when I took the plunge and purchased the current home or house that I have in for the last 3 years. My current residence just happens to be a two family that was purchased for $96k. A modest first time home, in one of Manitowoc's top 4 neighborhood by far.

My point is, You as a future home Buyer can do it for you really put your mind and focus on purchasing an affordable house. First time home buyers qualify for a Wheda home loan, with certain restrictions, however only need 3% down. Whoo Hooo!

Caution, Manitowoc's real estate market is affordable yes, but a future buyer must keep in mind that if you don't stay in your newly purchased home for 10 years, (assuming its not a fixer upper to sell) then you should just consider renting.
