Oak Island Bridge Construction

Before our sales staff meeting this morning I rode 18+ miles on my bicycle. One item that was interesting was the long concrete beams loaded on a barge that is in the Intracoastal Waterway near the new Oak Island Bridge construction site. It's amazing that these beams are to be lifted in place by the cranes some of which are loaded on barges. I look forward to seeing progress there every time we ride our bicycles down Yacht Drive.

Bicycling With the Big Boys

On Sunday I rode a very conservative ride of 10 miles, and just kind of cruised along. My husband rode the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry and then bicycled from Fort Fisher to downtown Wilmington to a coffee shop for a bit of re-fueling before the ride back to the ferry. This 50 mile round trip is a bit more than I wanted to do so I know I made the right decision to stick to Oak Island.

Fish are Biting Toay on Oak Island

It's a bit overcast today, and not quite as humid. My fishing friend said that this was a good day for the fish to be biting. When I asked him if it made a difference whether or not there was a drizzle he pointed out that the fish didn't care because they were already wet.

Fireworks then Get out of Town

We really enjoyed the N C Fourth of July fireworks display in Southport last night. To make it even better was our successful footrace to our cars and hitting the side streets, making it out of town, over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge, onto Oak Island then home in 20 minutes, no kidding!

Bicycling Oak Island & Brunswick County

My neighbor and I have just started riding bicycles together. Rode Oak Island about 17 miles total yesterday and enjoyed stopping by my cousin's house on Davis Canal and having an energy and water recharge in the middle of the ride. My husband went out and rode with the "big boys" about 45 miles total in Brunswick County. I'm building up my stamina before I rejoin that crowd to ride. It's really nice to have so many rural paved roads with light traffic to ride. That particular ride starts at Andrew Cowell's shop on Midway Road, then goes North and finds it way by a series of turns to Kopp's Store in Bolivia for snacks and drinks. On the way out and on the way in you travel by a goat pasture that is always fun to see what they are doing, usually eating! Today we're going to ride in the early evening, trying to catch up on the computer tasks early today!
