Bicycling is a great activity in Boiling Spring Lakes. It has lightly traveled paved roads available for the avid road cyclist as well as the beach cruiser variety. Ride with the Brunswick Pedalers on one of their organized rides. Be sure to bring your required helmet to participate with this dedicated group.
Southport is a thriving community that takes pride in preserving its rich history. Historic homes and newer cottage style residences provide a haven for a more relaxed lifestyle that is typical in this small coastal town. Preservation extends to the hundreds of years old massive Live Oak trees that are throughout the town. Many of the streets meander around these beauties in order for them to remain untouched. The maritime culture has appeal for retirees, and is also a draw for tourists. The majestic Cape Fear River provides passage for ships that navigate from Wilmington to the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Fear Pilots guide the ship captains by Southport and Battery Island, then between Bald Head Island and Caswell Beach to the sea.
