When I first became involved in Active Rain my motives were simple. I wanted to learn what social networking is and improve my computer skills. I have achieved those goals and continue to learn every day. Now Active Rain has become so much more than that. What a new world it is!
Who could have dreamed that I would have a group of friends that I've never met (for the most part) who I know I can count on whenever I call on them? Who would have dreamed that I would start and end each day in the rain? How could I ever have expected that all the problems I encounter can be so much easier to solve because of my AR friends or that all my joys could multiply every time I share them with Active Rain?
You never fully appreciate sunshine until you walk in the rain.
(A little poem with a big title by: Marian)
Sometimes life can be hard
And times get really tough.
Sometimes it seems that no one cares,
About important stuff.
Sometimes it seems the sun won't shine
And clouds are here to stay,
I work my hardest and my best
Without reward or pay.
And then I turn my computer on
Log on and without pain,
Discover that the sun is shining,
Every day on Active Rain.

I have been procrastinating. That's not like me but I think I'm experiencing a little "fear of success." I'm still a rookie in Active Rain. I'm new. I'm so technologically impaired. I like having all those excuses and yet...
When I hit the POST button and send this blog in...I'll go past the 50,000 mark. How did I get here? Now what?

OK, I admit, I'm a little addicted to watching my points go up. I love being near the top in my area. OK, I admit too that I want to be number 1! Is that sick?
But I made a commitment that I wouldn't write junk and that I wouldn't make stupid comments just for points. But I just realized that while I'm looking for comment worthy blogs, I'm learning and getting motivated and being inspired and entertained. When I open a blog and it starts to bore me I move on and often I read a blog and don't think it worth comment. If I comment, I like to think that the writer will appreciate my input.
So is that bad? I don't know about everybody else, but I really appreciate all the comments on my blogs and I really enjoy getting to know people from the way they write. So that's my two cents worth for now.

He was 18 pounds of pure heart. His name was Casey and he was the best dog I ever had. My husband bought him for me when he was 8 weeks old and weighed a whopping 3 pounds. In no time at all it was clear that I was his favorite human, although Corey, our big old yellow mutt, was definitely his best friend. I'd never been around Jack Russell Terriers before, so his energy and inquisitiveness was an exhausting but thrilling surprise. That was 14 1/2 years ago.
In the past year it has become obvious that Casey was nearing the end of his life. He finally slowed down, but his love for his family never diminished. In late fall we were able to take him to church for the blessing of the animals. I know he was always blessed but that made it official and I'm so grateful for that experience and for a priest who loves animals as much as we do. Casey was surely a constant blessing to us. Two months ago his heart began to fail and he really didn't want to play anymore but I convinced myself he wasn't suffering.
In the evening all he wanted to do was lay in his bean bag in front of the fireplace.
Then he stoped eating and I knew I couldn't deny it any longer. A trip to the vet confirmed it. His heart, liver and kidneys were all failing and he wouldn't last much longer. I couldn't allow him to suffer any more. I made the appointment for the following day. (I had to have one more night with him.)

Yesterday Ted and I wrapped him in a blanket and carried him to his vet. Dr. Todd Worrell has been his doctor for the past 10 years and we all consider him part of our family. I held Casey. Dr. Todd, his tech, Ted and I all cried as Casey quietly went to sleep forever.
I'll miss you good buddy and I'll never forget the joy you brought to my life.
God turns clouds inside out to make fluffy beds for the dogs in Dog Heaven, and when they are tired from running and barking and eating ham-sandwich biscuits, the dogs find a cloud bed for sleeping. God watches over each one of them. And there are no bad dreams. -- Cynthia Rylant
