If It's Columbus Weekend, It's Long Island Fall Festival Time

It's LONG ISLAND FALL FESTIVAL time on Long Island.  Taking place on Friday, October 8 through Monday, October 11, the home for the annual fair is Heckscher Park in Huntington.  The four day event will feature lots of fabulous rides, hundreds of vendors, beer and wine tent, food court including a raw bar, 3 music stages for continuous entertainment, a meatball eating contest, celebrities such as the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern and Samantha Brown.  The festival features a spirited Columbus Day Parade to get everyone filled with Long Island pride.

Parking is at a premium near the fair, but there are 10 municipal lots in the area as well as free parking at the Long Island Railroad Parking Lots.  A shuttle bus will be from the train station and you'll be able to catch a ride for a small fee.

Northport Cow Harbor Race and Cow Harbor Day

Things will really be hoppin' this weekend in Northport! The quiet village will be celebrating it's GREAT COW HARBOR FESTIVAL!

The Great Cow Harbor" is what Northport Village was originally called many years ago as the cows used to graze on the beautiful fields along the harbor. Today, those fields are now the locale of two lovely parks. This annual festival celebrates the history of Northport Village.

The weekend starts off on Saturday, September 25, with the GREAT COW HARBOR 10K RACE. This race, which was recognized by "Runner's World" magazine as won of the top 100 races in the USA. Last year over 5,300 runners participated in the race through the streets of Northport Village, with another 650 racing the 2K. The race gets underway at 8:30AM.

For a trip back to yesterday, come down to COW HARBOR DAY on Sunday, September 26. The day starts with a parade down Main Street, complete with the old Northport Trolley. They'll be lots of music, lots to eat and lots of things to buy from vendors who come from all over. A note to the wise: get there before 9:30 AM if you hope to have a chance at parking not too far away. They'll be plenty of place for you to have a bit of breakfast before you start the day.

Summer doesn't end until the GREAT COW HARBOR WEEKEND ends the festivities at 5pm.

If you're looking for a home in the Northport/East Northport area, or anywhere on Long Island, please give me a call. I'd love to help you find your Long Island Dream Home.
