Summer, baseball and other musings

Tis' the last rose of summer--but not in Texas. The heat has been unbelievable. Today, however held a great surprise. My husband and I were taking a walk in the Sam Houston National Forest which is so close to our home in this gorgeous part of Texas, and the strangest thing happened.

Not a pack of wild hogs, or a scary copperhead, or even a family of very spooked possums--all encountered on oone of our walks, but different stories. Today in the heat of August, we came to a point in the trail that a breeze swept over us that I swear felt like it was from a refrigerator whose door was inadvertantly left open. How cool--literally and figuratively.Sam Houston National Forest Huntsville TX

I love summer. I am really loving baseball. Texas Rangers baseball to be exact. I can't help it. I have tried to be an Astros fan, but when we lived in Fort Worth, we fell in love with the Rangers. One of my favorite parts of watching Rangers baseball is our announcers, Josh and Tag (Josh Lewin and Tom Grieve). It is like hangin out with friends. They are so natural and so excited about baseball. That genuine spirit is immediately obvious when you listen to them. That genuineness is all too rare these days. Sometimes it's hard for people just to be real. But I digress.

Football Season is knocking on the door and before we know it--Basketball. Don't get me started. Being a Dallas Maverick fan was in my pre-nup. I have really become a sports fan. And how much more we enjoy our sports. We decided to get a new Television. We were watching a 1989 model, I think it was time. We got an LED. It is sweet. Clear and beautiful. So much fun. Life is good. Time with family, enjoying sports, watching the last roses of summer outside my family room door.

Ahhhhhhh...............................................

The Summer Cycle: from a teen's perspective

The Summer Cycle: from a teen's perspective

Many of your have written wanting to hear more from this talented young author. To recap, The author, Sarah (13), is part of an incredibly wonderful family I have had the privilege to work with as their Realtor.

The last time we were with Sarah and her family, we were in the Butler's Pantry (see previous post "8 People in a Butler's Pantry). Now we're on to Summer Vacation. Have you ever wondered what teenagers really think about summer? Here's your chance to find out. Enjoy!

The Summer Cycle

By Sarah Landsman

Months, weeks, days, hours, minutes... we all count down till the summer. Oh that glorious time we've dreamed about since September! When the bell rings, the entire student body lets out a hundred sighs and ecstatic screams! Then, at long last, it's the time we all have waited for. Summer.

Starting from the day we get out of school, our lives turn into a medley of truly cliched summer activities. Perhaps it's Dad barbecuing outside, or swimming with our siblings under the blazing summer sun. However you spend those first couple of weeks, it's summer all the same.

Now, having had a few summers in my life, I know how it goes. The thrill wears off. And when late July rolls into August, we start lying to ourselves. We tell ourselves that we really don't want school to come back around. That we hate the thought of seeing our teachers or having to do schoolwork. Some of us manage to convince ourselves that this is true, but we know it's not. And when you start getting wrapped up in last minute summer activities, back to school shopping, and trying to jump-start your brain before school, the days creep in without you noticing. Sooner than you expected or wanted, the first day of the school year is here. You really don't want to admit it but, you know you are glad. You're happy to be back. Everyone is.

Can You Think a of a Great Way to Beat the Heat?

Yes,

I live in Texas. I have now for almost 9 years. Still trying to figure out more ways to enjoy the outdoors in the Summer in Texas heat.

So, Can You Think of a Great Way to enjoy the great outdoors and Beat the Heat?

Here are a few things I have thought of.

--Mister--Gotta have a Mister

--Lemonade (or the "adult" version)

--Doing outdoor activities in the morning

--Porch ceiling fans

......and all the ideas I hope to get from you!

Does Your Garden relax you like it relaxes me?

Does Your Garden relax you like it relaxes me?

Wow. Here I am on a Saturday night listening to Andrea Bocelli and looking out on my garden. I am such a geek, but I love it. It is so peaceful. The colors...the greens, the purples and the reds. So gorgeous. My Passion Vines are really taking off and are creating a beautiful natural arbor from one trellis to the next on some fishing line that I strung to allow the vines to travel to the neighboring trellises.

And, today, I splurged. I bought a $54 mister. I still can't believe I did it. But I really want to sit out in the garden without a heat stroke. The sun is now filtering through a canopy of East Texas Pines. The peppers are perky, the rosemary an olfactory sensation unlike any other and the basil. Don't get me started on the basil....mmmmmMagnifico!. The strains of the beautiful Italian songs bellow from the speakers as the sun gently imparts its last light sculpture on the back fence. This is my kind of Saturday night.

Life is good. Gardens make it more colorful.

AORTA Headline: Higher Numbers on Calendars found to Contribute to Stress

AORTA Headline: Higher Numbers on Calendars found to Contribute to Stress

These findings have just been released from the "Association of Realtors Trying Adlibs" AORTA:

Increasing numeric figures in the Calendar stream headlong into higher levels of fear and anxiety that mount toward an increase in frenzied activity leading toward something called "closings." The problem begins as the calendar numbers climb toward 28-29-30 and sometimes even 31. Doctors are still trying to determine why these "closings" appear more toward the end of a month, but have linked such activities to these higher stress levels.

As these Realtors attempt to keep the "closings" in the part of the calendar with higher numbers, behavior shifts from what would be considered "normal" to somewhat frenzied and irrational.

The major reason for this change is being blamed on a condition called "TOFU" "Too much Optimism, Forgetting about Underwriters. TOFU causes a series of incidents that if unchecked lead to "STIR-FRY." Something Terrible In that Realtors Freak Realizing Y. "Y," you ask because Underwriters overpromise and under deliver. A condition called BUTT "Beware of Underwriting, TIMING--THINK.

Yes, it is indeed one of those days. I am SO committed to customer service, it bothers me very deeply when things out of my control inconvenience my clients. I am heartbroken when this happens. How do I deal with it? Sometimes a little bit of humor so that I can relieve my stress enough to offer my client my best to attempt to come up with solutions.

So, please, to protect yourself and others, please join my society which will be the cure for TOFU, STIR FRY and will negate the need for AORTA.
