Westchester Real Estate Blog - Day 1

Mark Boyland

Welcome to my first blog entry on Active Rain. The real estate industry has had some incredible changes since I started my Real Estate career over 12 years ago and blogging about Real Estate is one of them. My goal is to provide relevant information on the local real estate markets in Upper Westchester County. This blog will provide local market statistics for Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, New Castle, North Castle, Mt. Kisco, North Salem, and Somers primarily. I will also touch on new marketing techniques in the industry and promote some of my listings(hey, I got to pay the bills right?).

My career in Real Estate started in 1995 when my Mother, Ann Boyland, a top agent in Northern Westchester was diagnosed with cancer and needed help in running her business during chemotherapy and recovery. At the time I was working in Television and Radio and was not particularly thrilled with my chosen profession. I jumped on board and worked with her at Prudential Ragette Real Estate. After 9 months my mother was back in action and I decided to start my own real estate career and go out on my own. I joined Coldwell Banker Residential Real estate after being with Prudential for 2 years. Over the next 9 years I focused on education and built my business through systems and innovative marketing. I was one of the first agents to sell a listing using the internet in my area. In 2005 I became the #1 agent at Coldwell Banker in Bedford, The #6 agent with Coldwell Banker in Westchester County and the #1 agent for closed sales in all of Northeastern Westchester as well as being one of the top 10 agents, out of 8,000, in all of Westchester County.

By the end of 2005 I had reached my business goals. I also realized that the industry was changing and it was crucial that I change with it and find a new business model that allowed me to grow and stay competitive. I was fortunate that Keller Williams Realty was coming to the area.

I thoroughly researched Keller Williams and I was blown away by what I found. A real estate company that had an incredible philosophy and culture unmatched by any traditional brokerage out there today. They believed in constant education, implementing strong tested business models, personal branding, an office culture of teamwork and support, and integrity. It provided an open book policy that made the agents stakeholders and gave them a real say in how the company was run. This was a monumental shift in our industry. The Keller Williams mission says it all "To build careers worth having, businesses worth owning, and lives worth living. WOW! I was sold. I joined Keller Williams in January 2006 and never looked back. I can truly say it was the best business decision that I have ever made. Keller Williams is now the 4th largest Real Estate company in the United States with almost 80,000 agents. In addition my office grew to over 110 agents in just over 18 months after opening, which is unprecedented in our area. You can find out more about Keller Williams at www.kw.com/kw/aboutus.html

In 2006 I was also elected President of the 8,000 member Westchester-Putnam Multiple Listing Service. My goal with the WPMLS is to make it the premier MLS in the region and add more functionality and efficiency to the system to better serve our Realtor members.

Well, enough about me. I truly hope the information presented on this blog will help you with your real estate sale or purchase and give you an inside track that most consumers won't even know is available. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions you might have. Feedback is incredibly important to me and Keller Williams Realty.

Sincerely,
