Jim & Maria Hart wrote a post called Just 1 More last week encourage others to write a holiday card to wounded soldiers - who have fought for our American freedom. I thought that this would be an easy thing to do to brighten the day of one of these fine Americans.
I dug out some holiday cards and asked my kids if they would like to help. We ended up writing out a box of 20 cards. The kids were asking me for more. We ended up running out to the local dollar store and picked up 5 more boxes.
My plan is to have the children - of the religious education class that I teach - write out a box of cards as a project for our next class. I will give the other 4 boxes to the other teachers, so they can have their classes work on the project of writing out the rest of the cards.
Once they are completed, we will compile them all into one box and mail them off to the soldiers.
Thanks Jim & Maria Hart for this wonderful idea to help boost the spirits of these soldiers during this holiday season.

Offers an educational treat from the sea - the
Mystic Aquarium & Institute For Exploration
I must say, when I travel to other cities with aquariums and I have to choose what it is I will be doing on my trip, I tend to put the aquarium of that destination on the bottom of my list... Because I live so close to the Mystic Aquarium and I haven't seen another one that even compares to it.
What I think I like most about the Mystic Aquarium is that there are hands-on exhibits. Hence the name Institute For Exploration. The excitement of being involved with the sea creatures is, well, just plain fun!

The highlight here would have to be the Sea Lion Show.
The three stars of this show are the sea lions named Coco, Surfer, and Boomerang. The trainers have skillfully worked to show the intelligence of these wonderful animals. I have seen this show numerous times with my kids and always enjoy the comical ways of the stars of the show.
There are at least 3 sea lion show a day here. Planning a visit around a showtime is wise, in my opinion.

Then of course are the wonderful penguins of this aquarium - who are also very peculiar and comical to watch.
The Mystic Aquarium is open year round. Yes, even the penguins do just fine in the heat of summer here.
Another one of my favorite things here is.... I LOVE to watch the Seahorses! Their grace and beauty fascinate me. I could watch them for hours.
There is so much here to enjoy!

Don't you just love when things go as planned??
My family held a food drive and I wrote a post about it: Giving Thanks......By Giving to the Less Fortunate!
Here is the update!
WOW!!! I am so pleased with the generosity of the people of my little town.
All of the food has been collected and is on route to the food pantry of the:
St. Vincent de Paul Place, in Norwich, CT.
To all of the people of Preston, CT who generously donated and made this food drive a SUCCESS:
My family plans to do this again next year!!!

When was the last time you say this!!!
My friend Valerie Osterhoudt says in her latest blog post that in Cromwell, CT gas has reached as low as $1.99. I must say, that IS pretty good! I have got a place that'll do better! On South Main Street, Colchester, CT gas prices have reach a low of $1.74/gallon! Woo Hoo!
The three gas stations on this street are having a price war. When one lowers the price the other two follow suit. Gee... I wonder how low they are willing to go. In the meantime, WE can get gas at reasonable prices!!!

I just checked this website out and Citco on South Main Street of Colchester is down to $1.73. The picture above is actually wrong - THE PRICE HAS GONE DOWN SINCE I TOOK IT!!
