So I had an appointment today.
I met with these two sisters who where cleaning out the house that they grew up in so they could sell it. This house is in Norwich, CT. Their 92 year old mother just moved out after 65 years of living there - to a place that can give her the care she needs.
These sisters may have been in their late 60's, but I could tell they felt like they were 12 years old again in this house that they knew and loved while growing up.
I tell you, it felt like I was walking into a time warp! If these walls could talk, I am sure they would have plenty of loving stories to tell. Instead, the ladies shared a few with me.
The kitchen set up was as if it was about 1952, with the scalloped and painted cabinetry and old farmer's sink with old linoleum flooring and nostalgic wallpaper. The girls (now remember they are now in their late 60's) showed me the pantry that they used to pretend - as if it were a phone booth (I was picturing the movie ‘American Graffiti' and a bunch of teenagers piling into a telephone booth).
They showed me the sewing room. This is where they would make their clothes and where they did all of their ironing. Then they showed me the bedroom that they shared as kids. They then showed me the window in their bedroom that they would open and have a tin can telephone set up and a line to the neighbor's bedroom window, and they would talk on this ‘telephone' to their neighborhood friend - for hours.
The sisters pointed out where the coal room was in the cellar, and the window that the coal was shoveled into - this was before oil was used to heat a home around this part of the country (Connecticut).
Also in the cellar they showed me the area that they would sing, dance and make up skits for their parents to watch. This area still had the special and very nostalgic red wallpaper with pictures of vinyl records on it. They showed me the clothes line that they would pin notes onto from the enclosed back porch window and would push the line to the shed (where the clothes line ended). One sister would be on the porch, and the other would be in the shed while they would communicate their silliness through these 'clothes line notes.' Also, in this shed is where they played tea party.
These ladies really had some beautiful memories at this home.
It was a pleasure to share this home tour - through their childhood.

What a terrific experience you will have at this unique indoor mini golf course -
Themed in a very spooky way.
This is a "deep dark & demented"18 Hole Glow-in-the-Dark miniature golf course. This place is so uniquely decorated with the creepiest of things. The detail of haunting pleasure put into this place has to be experienced.
Don't forget to wear something WHITE when you come here!!! It will glow like crazy with the fun fluorescent lighting.... Be sure to use your teeth whitening strips before you go so your will teeth glow even brighter! (I am not kidding...they will glow)!

These Italian-made high performance go-karts are NOT your typical pedal to the medal karts that handle like grandma's car. OH NO... These things go as FAST as 35 MPH. It's unbelievable!!!

They go so FAST that you are required to sit through a short instructional session to learn safety requirements and a lesson on how to handle these things.

What a fantastic and exilerating experience! You have not gone go-karting until you have driven one of these. Once you do, and experience the thrill, you will never go back to the average go-kart joint. For safety sake, a helmet is a must while driving these, but don't worry, these karts are safe and easy enough to drive from the first try. After that you will want to give it a go again to perfect your skills around this track's challenging sharp corners - "You will experience 1.5 g's while accelerating through the turns." It couldn't get any better. You will have never thought you had it in you!

(If you are not into going FAST... Willy D's does have what they call Naskarts which are not the fast go-karts...and they won't be on the course at the same time as these FAST Birel High Performance Karts. It's your choice.)

My family is giving back to my community.... I feel it is important to teach my children the importance of this concept. My dear friend Elizabeth Nieves has given me the idea...thank you Elizabeth and GBU!
I am asking the people of my neighborhood - in the Preston, CT area - out of the goodness of their hearts - to assist in this task of giving back to our community....through food donations.
Stop & Shop has graciously offered to donate handled paper shopping bags for my family to get this task done.
We will be hanging these bags on the side of mailboxes
on
Wednesday, November 12, 2008.
There will be a note on the bag that asks for non-perishable food items to be put in the bags.
We will be requesting for the
bags - filled with food - to be
left back out by these mailboxes by 10 am on
Saturday, November 15, 2008.
My family will be coming to get the filled bags between the hours of 10 am to 2 pm that day.
This food will be going to the St. Vincent de Paul Place aka 'The Soup Kitchen' in downtown Norwich, CT.
...Just in time for ...Thanksgiving. Thank you in advance!
If you do not live in my area BUT want to take part in this activity, PLEASE take the effort to orgainize your very own food drive....and give back to your community.
