SKIPPERS PIER AND DOCK BAR- GOOD EATS ON THE WATER

SKIPPERS PIERAfter attending a Home Show with a girfriend last Saturday we decided to grab some lunch before parting ways. And with miles and miles of shoreline gracing every corner of our county we are blessed with many wonderful waterfront restaurants to choose from.

Since we were already on the southern end of the county we headed to Deale and stopped in Skippers Pier for lunch.

Located on Rockhold Creek Skippers Pier is tucked away at the end of a residential area. It offers inside and waterside dining and this winter day inside was are only choice. We chose the more casual side of the restaurant and settled inside a booth overlooking the pier and water.

We both ordered cream of crab soup and a sandwich. The soup was outstanding and the sandwiches were excellent. And to top it all off our server always seemed to appear at just the right moment.

Choosing Skippers Pier for lunch that day was the perfect spot for a winter time waterfront dining experience. It is a place well worth stopping into when in the south county area.

A SUNDAY STROLL THROUGH ANNAPOLIS MARYLAND

We were blessed with a beautiful Sunday last week so off I went with camera in hand to stroll the streets of downtown Annapolis. A town rich in history beholds stories of times gone by. And though I will not elaborate on the stories this time around I will share some photos that give a glimpse of the beauty of our architecture, the pull of the waterfront and the love of a town I call home.

US Naval Academy in Annapolis MD

US Naval Academy Photo Courtesy of Martha Brown

Having grown up in Annapolis, the Naval Academy has always held a very large part in my childhood memories. A sea of white uniforms in the summer and another sea of dark uniforms in the winter would converge on my parent's office supply store on weekends as the Mids shopped for those items that made their studies easier.

The Navy football games in the fall were always a coveted ticket where tailgating and laughter rang out among the revelers attending. And the streets of Annapolis were jammed for a time as the middies marched to the stadium located outside the gates of the academy.

The Naval Academy has always been a favorite spot among residents and visitors alike, to run, walk, stroll or bike along the beautiful and scenic Severn River or to watch the Blue Angels fly over during Commissioning Week (called June Week when I was growing up).

One of my very favorite pastimes as a youngster was sitting along the seawall watching the boats make their way to the Annapolis Harbor. Since 9/11 some of the freedoms I enjoyed as a child are more restricted today but none the less, the Naval Academy is still a great place to visit.

Homestead Gardens of Annapolis

Homestead GardensWhen I moved to Davidsonville a few years ago little did I know I would be blessed with the seasonal Christmas display of Homestead Gardens. This little bit of Christmas cheer is on display for all to enjoy who pass by.

Offering anything and everything a gardener could want throughout the year including a top knotch landscaping service, Homestead Gardens pulls out all the stops at this time of year.

Each holiday season Homestead holds a Christmas Open House where the festivities are delightful with local restaurants serving yummy apetizers and beautiful music performed by local musicians. An awesome train display is always a favorite stop as we wander around the acres of fresh cut Christmas trees, fresh greenery, beautiful decorations and one of a kind gifts.

Located just minutes outside Annapolis on Rt 214 Homestead Gardens is a must go to destination any time of year but especially enjoyable right now.

For an inside look at this magical place visit my friend Margaret Woda's post.

Harry Brownes Restaurant- An Annapolis Pleasure

harry brownesLast Saturday evening during a light and beautiful snowfall, my husband and I headed downtown to Harry Brownes for his company Christmas Party.

Located on State Circle in downtown Annapolis, Harry Brownes has been a beautiful addition to the Annapolis restaurant scene for about 20 years.

Valet parking is a must when visiting Harry Brownes as the brick lined narrow street on which it is located has limited parking. As we pulled up in front of the restaurant the valet service whipped into action and we were quickly and pleasantly escorted inside.

The party was held in the upstairs area of the restaurant where a full bar, comfortable seating and the buffet were all beautifully arranged to serve our needs. As we greeted each other and mingled with fresh drinks in hand we were served steamed shrimp, scallops wrapped in bacon and puff pastries filled with beef. Delicious.

The food at Harry Brownes was to die for. Dinner consisted of Maryland crab cakes, melt in your mouth roast beef, perfectly seasoned potatoes, vegetables and all the accompliments that make dining such a pleasure.

The experience from beginning to end was one of pure pleasure. Their service is exceptional and their food delectable. A visit to Harry Brownes is one we will be certain to make more often.
