Congratulations to Sugarloaf Country Club resident Stewart Cink for winning the 138th British Open. It was one of the most exciting finishes in Open history as Cink won a 4-hole playoff against veteran Tom Watson. Watson has won 5 British Open titles previously and is one of the most successful golfers in history. At age 59, Watson mounted an incredble run but came up one stroke short of voctory with a bogey on the 18th hole. Stewart made a rare birdie on the 18th in regulation to post a 2 under par score. In the playoff, Stewart was 2 under par while Watson blew to a triple of the 17th hole which was the 3rd playoff hole.
Stewart was obviously excited but a humble and classy winner as he acknowledged the venerable Watson in his comments after the round. Watson was quite the gentleman. He allowed Stewart to have his moment in the sun when he could have easily taken center stage. The announcers commented several times about the contrasting styles of Watson versus Tiger Woods who showed his frustration by slamming clubs and cursing around the course. Tiger missed the cut. That is only the second time ever in a major.
Back in Sugarloaf Country Club, our neighbors are so happy for Stewart, Lisa and the boys. Banners are visible at each entrance and the club house. Stewart is a wonderful human being and a great ambassador for how the sport of golf should be represented. We look forward to his continued success.

Residents of Sugarloaf Country Club have experienced some very exciting days lately. No, I am not talking about Michael Vick or the Mansion Madame. Both of these homes are being handled by the bankruptcy courts now. I am talking about tennis, baseball and golf!
Sugarloaf resident Jordan Cox recently made it to the Junior Finals at Wimbeldon. What an incredible experience! His parents (Richard and Julie Cox) were there to cheer him on. His brother (Brad) is his coach and great mentor. We are all very proud of Jordan.
Seems like everyone wrote Andruw Jones off as a professional baseball player. He was traded from the Braves to the Dodgers. They released him and he was picked up by the Texas Rangers. Andruw is primarily used as a designated hitter. On July 9th, he hit 3 home runs against the LA Angels - one of the best teams in baseball. Imagine that - not one, not two, but three home runs in one game! Congratulations to Andruw, Nicole and young Druw. Actually, this is not the first time Andruw has hit 3 homers in one game. He also did it in September 2007 against Philly.
And finally, Stewart Cink just won the British Open! What an incredible accomplishment. As golfers hit their approach shot to the green on the beautiful par 5 (Stables #6), they can look to the left at the Cink's house and congratulate him. Congratulations to Stewart, Lisa and the boys. We wish them a safe trip back across the pond.
Congratulations to our Sugarloaf Country Club neighbors.
