Methow Valley Christmas At the End of the Road Kicks off the Holiday Season

Winthrop Washington hosts Christmas at the End of the Road every year. And over the decades it has grown and gotten better and better. Some of the highlights this year were the ceremony to officially open the Winthrop Spring Creek Bridge. This bridge can really be seen in all its glory from above the Ice Rink and looking over at all the great things that are happening in Winthrop Washington.

Here is a snippet of the bridge ceremony, which was very special indeed:

To wind things up from a long list of activities and events for any age is the annual fireworks show. This fireworks display is really something. It starts at 6:00 rather than say 10:30 and it lasts for about 30 full minutes. It is always very special. Here you can hear the crowd going crazy:

Washington State Route 20 "The North Cascades Highway" Temporarily Closes.

Lots of snow followed by very cold temperatures are predicted this early winter/late fall 2011.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has temporarily closed the North Cascades Highway with a predicted reopening on Monday November 21, 2011.

Here is the site that has the official information: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/passes/northcascades .

It is so exciting to see the snow come to beautiful Methow Valley, but don't forget to get those studded snow tires on the car!

For visitors planning a trip to Mazama, and Winthrop Washington, typically some of the most treacherous road conditions on Highway 20 (as you head northwest up into the mountains) can occur right at the wings of the closures. Watch the weather and if a storm is predicted to blow in on the high peaks, consider traveling on Stevens Pass, or I-90, these roads are further south and may get you here safely. Consider that even if the highway is open and our typical sunny gorgeous Methow Valley skies ensue, if a storm happens to blow in, the North Cascades Highway 20 can close while you are here visiting famous Winthrop Washington and you may be required need to take a different route.North Cascades Highway Closes November 2011
