The Royal Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria

The Royal Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria is very simply a local tradition. A fixture in Old Town Alexandria for over 100 years, the Royal Restaurant is home to local politicians, neighbors, early morning meetings and omelet fans everywhere.

X Royal Sign

Originally located next to City Hall at 109 North Royal, the eatery quickly attracted a following with hearty southern-style dinners and homemade rice pudding.

It was THE place for lunch in the 40's, 50's and 60's and, according to the owners, the site of many of the city's most important political decisions.

The Royal moved to it's present location in 1965 without missing a beat. There is plenty of restaurant competition now but the Royal continues to fill the doors with locals who want good, unpretentious, reasonably priced food. What more could you ask for?

Our favorite meal at the Royal Restaurant is breakfast, especially on the weekends. Look no further than the omelet station on Saturday and Sunday mornings

X Omelet Bar

With almost a dozen fillings, the omelet's are made to order, fluffy and no nonsense. We love them! It's no wonder that the Royal is routinely voted "best breakfast" in Alexandria.

The Royal is not the place to count calories or cholesterol but if it's comfort you want then it's comfort you get.

Oh, they also have "Elvis" nights, a perfect foll for the red leather booths, jukebox and black-n-white check floor tiles!

See you there,

Pizzeria Del Ray Opens on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Alexandria

Pizzeria Del Ray is now open on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Alexandria. The interior is rather stark but there is a bar and at least one TV for sports fans.

Pizzeria Del Ray on Mt. Vernon Avenue

It's a fairly standard menu with appetizers, deep dish pizza, salads, sandwiches and four pasta choices. The beer list looks promising and the outdoor seating is always a plus.

Early reviews have not been kind but we'll chalk it up to opening jitters. (A hint to the owners/managers - the neighborhood wants to love you.) The good news is that's it's a great location (2218 Mt. Vernon Avenue) and offers something new to Del Ray. Phone number - 703.549.2999 - Pizzeria Del Ray.

Big pumpkins, small pumpkins, in-between pumpkins. With a whole lot of people to unload, stack, sell and answer questions, the pumpkins arrived this past Sunday at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill for a grand month long sale.

Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill

This Great Pumpkin Patch tradition, now in it's 17th year, supports the community outreach programs of Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill and the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico.

It is the church's single largest fundraiser, contributing over $45, 000 to organizations like Carpenter's Lodging, ALIVE! and Carpenter's Shelter.

As much a community event as a church event, the Pumpkin Patch is a laid back, low tech venue for children and adults alike. Indian corn, gourds, corn stalks, crafts and baked goods are also for sale.

And if that isn't enough, don't forget the 3rd Annual Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 9:00am - 1:00pm.

Seriously folks, why even think about going any place else for your pumpkins!
