Going, Going, Green! New Baseball Complex Opens in Grapevine, Texas

The City of Grapevine will proudly unveil their first major Quality of Life Project paid for by a sales tax increase approved by the citizens of Grapevine in November, 2006. The Oak Grove Ballfield Complex Renovation Project is nearing completion after just under eleven months of work, the new baseball fields will open this weekend (Opening Day - Saturday May 2, 2009 9-11 a.m.).

new fields

The 12 million dollar complex features seven baseball fields ranging in size from blast-ball (3-4 year olds) to a full size Colt/Varsity field (Ages 15-18), two multipurpose softball/baseball fields, four batting cages, sixteen soft toss stations, 800,000 square feet of new turf grass, a concession area measuring five times the size of the previous concession space, mens/womens/family restrooms, a custom state-of-the-art playground, 275 new trees planted on-site, 270-1,000 watt sports lights on 49 poles, and 310 parking spaces.

The complex also includes an environmentally friendly pumping system to pump untreated water from Lake Grapevine for irrigating the fields. The park is a first in Grapevine with such a huge “green” aspect. A man-made pond has been added to the facility measuring 2.7 acres with a pond capacity of 3.5 million gallons of water. This water, pulled from lake Grapevine, will irrigate the baseball, softball, and soccer fields at Oak Grove Park saving dollars by the use of raw water versus treated water.

All native landscape has been incorporated in to the design and recycle receptacles have been placed throughout the facility. Guests are encouraged to dispose of their plastics and aluminum in these recycling containers. Musco Lighting—Light Structure GREEN was chosen for the energy saving aspects that this product offers. Not only are these lights 50-66% more efficient than standard ball field lighting, they are also engineered to not shine in to neighbors windows, interfere with the playing field right next door or the beautiful night sky. A series of timed power adjustments increases lamp life by 3,000-5,000 hours and lights are on only when needed through a monitored maintenance system, thus reducing energy costs tremendously.

With Lake Grapevine as the backdrop of Oak Grove Park Ballfield Complex, this incredible facility is one of the most state-of-the-art sports complexes of its kind in North Texas. More than 500,000 people will circulate through this complex each year . Grapevine is proud to call Oak Grove Park Ballfield Complex, their newest playground.

New Realbird Property Search Tool (BETA)

I just installed this cool new home search tool on my AR sidebar.  It seems to provide the listing information off Google Base data, and is extremely customizable (by area, by city, by price range, etc.). Realbird also offers a full screen version for webpages or blog posts (see below), or check out the sidebar version just to the right of this post on my blog.  The best part of it all, it was FREE!  Thanks Realbird, you guys are the best!
