The 18th Annual Sardine Festival in Aberdeen, NC

On Saturday, Oct 8, from 11-2, you can experience one of the stranger festivals you'll ever encounter. In Aberdeen, NC, it's the International Sardine Festival of all things. It takes place at Aberdeen Lake and the public is invited to come enjoy sardines, crackers and sodas (free but donations are accepted). As far as anyone knows, there is no connection between Aberdeen and Sardines; and the festival got started when a daughter complained to her father about the sardines he was eating in his office for lunch. From such humble beginnings emerged a festival that has lasted for 18 years and even crowns a "Sardine Queen" as part of the festivities. Guess it just goes to show you that if you look hard enough, you can always find something in life to celebrate...even if it's your dad smelling up the workplace with a sardine lunch! If you need something to cheer you up this weekend, stop by Aberdeen Lake Park and you'll see a lot of smiles!!

Rhett's Restaurant - Southern Pines

Rhett's is one of the best restaurants in Southern Pines and Pinehurst. Rhett started out locally in the catering and personal chef business, but has quitely turned his kitchen into an outstanding place to eat all by word of mouth. They use nothing but the freshest ingredients and there is always something new on the menu. Plus the service is wonderful. The lunches are light and fresh, although there are always menu choices for the bigger appetite and vegetarian choices as well. For lunch, they have great salads and sandwiches - and always 2 or 3 seasonal soups. Dinner is awesome as well and offers maybe the best value in town. The cocktails are made from the new juice bar. Rhett's is located in Southern Pines at 127 W Pennsylvania Avenue right next to The Pilot near the intersection of Penn. Ave & Broad St. You can make dinner reservations using your opentable.com app or by calling 910-695-3663. Give Rhett's a try!! You won't be dissappointed and you'll probably become a regular.
