I love good food and I love to dine out, at least several times a week. I always make sure to have a handful of business cards with me. More times than not, I'll run into at least one prospective buyer or seller. I love to mix business with pleasure.
Since I am often out and about, clients ask for my restaurant recommendations. St. Augustine has hundreds of fabulous restaurants from which to choose. Where is a hungry patron to go?
Here are a few of my choices in the Downtown St. Augustine area:
A1A Ale Works is located downtown overlooking the Plaza and Bridge of Lions. Featuring New World Cuisine, handcrafted beer, and live music on weekends. A1A offers a blend of Caribbean, Cuban, and Floridian influences. Their specialties include Tavern Fried Shrimp and Fried Lobster Bites, to start, and Bistro Filet, Surf & Turf, Seared Tuna (my absolute favorite!), Grouper Oscar, and Grilled Seafood Paella. Dine inside or outside on the wraparound deck-both feature panoramic views of Matanzas Bay and the plaza. There are even banquet facilities for large parties up to 150 guests. Children's menu. Full bar. Open daily at 11 a.m., with live music Thurs.-Sat. evening

Barnacle Bill's a family-friendly establishment, is my go-to restaurant for some of the best Fried Shrimp in St. Augustine. You have to try the Shrimp Buster! In addition to the seafood-focused menu other items include steak, chicken, and gator tail. Barnacle Bills is known for their signature spicy Dat'l Do-It Shrimp and Dat'l Do-It Chicken Wings. Café Alcazar This was one of my Father's favorite restaurants. He would always comment about dining at the bottom of a swimming pool. Here you may enjoy international favorites in the spacious elegance of what was once the world's largest indoor swimming pool - truly a unique setting. Located in the former Alcazar Hotel (now the Lightner Museum), Café Alcazar offers fine dining in a casually elegant setting. Lunch is served lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Enjoy sautéed specialties such a Shrimp Giovanni, the delicious Crêpes Alcazar, sandwiches, paninis, salads, and homemade soups and fabulous desserts. Serving wine and beer; all major credit cards accepted.

Locals have all seen the bumper stickers -- St. Augustine a Sleepy Fishing Village.... but St. Augustine Beach, incorporated in 1959, was never really a fishing village and anything but sleepy. Long-time residents recall that the beach was quite the exciting place to be. The hard packed sand was wide enough for planes to land and cars to race on. There were even polo games with autos in lieu of ponies.
Today the only planes you will see are in the sky and beach polo has been replaced with Frisbee tossing and paddle tennis. Additionally, The St. Augustine Beach Pier Park, located directly across from Seaside at Anastasia Resort Condominiums, offers a variety of fun activities such as the Wed. Farmers Market, Music by the Sea Concerts, fishing on the pier, Volleyball, and a new Splash Park for the kiddies.
As St. Augustine Beach celebrates its 50th birthday this year more and more visitors are discovering why so many of us have decided to call this home. The reasonable prices of Homes in St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach, top rated public school systems and tropical climate are enticing. That is why I moved here in 1978 and why I am living here today. I love St. Augustine, fishing village or not.

When I was a child - I looked forward to the Bookmobile. It came to our grade school and was full of wonderful books of all
kinds. I loved to read and enjoyed letting my imagination run wild. I still do, although now my reading runs more to the marketing, technology and real estate variety to help folks buy and sell homes in St. Augustine. Next week the Bookmobile is coming to a place near you in St. Augustine and St. Johns County.
Here is the schedule for the St. Johns County Public Library System's Bookmobile for the week of Sept. 14th:

St. Augustine has been honored as one of the top 10 places to live in the United States. With art galleries, fine dining, rich history, education and beach recreation, St. Augustine has it all. The charming mix of old and new makes it simply one of the most fantastic places in Florida to live! Here are a few of the area's communities and homes in St. Augustine.
Anastasia Island & The Beaches St. Augustine's own island, along with the seaside locations of Seaside at St. Augustine Beach, SeaGrove, Crescent Beach, and Vilano Beach provide a restful haven of natural beauty away from the bustle of town. St. Augustine Mainland The St. Augustine Mainland offers a variety of neighborhoods to choose from. Mainstream shopping, dining and entertainment are never far away. The amenities of downtown St. Augustine and the beaches are just a short drive away. This area includes the communities of St. Augustine Shores, St. Augustine South, Camelot Village, Cypress Lakes and many new neighborhoods in between. From active communities to spacious acreage, this area has it all!
Golf Communities The St. Augustine area boasts some of the nation's best golf courses and communities included World Golf Village, Palencia, TPC Sawgrass, Julington Creek, Cypress Lakes, St. Augustine Shores, Marsh Creek Country Club. These are some of the fastest growing, upscale living communities in the county. Some of these developments provide 'town within a town' atmospheres including shopping, restaurants, schools, offices, and amenities galore within the neighborhoods.
Besides the areas featured above, our county consists of a variety of other areas including the luxurious Ponte Vedra with its seaside mansions and upscale shopping, to the rural area of Hastings and Elkton, where people still enjoy the vastness of nature.

When I first became involved with the St. Augustine Regional chapter of Women's Council of Realtor'sI was working as an on-site agent. Now that I am affiliated with Watson Realty Corp and selling homes in St. Augustine, if find my association even more valuable.
I am not only getting to know more of the local Real Estate Professionals who are the power players, I am benifiting from the ideas we share as well as property information. I find it easier to work with agents whom I know and trust, and many of those agents are associated with the St. Augustine Chapter of WCR.
Since I love St. Augustine, I am finding that through my WCR connection, I am able to be more involved in helping the people of community. For instance, we are planning a special "Bratini" event October 23rd. (More on that in the next few days) This event will help raise funds for a local breast cancer foundation, ArtBreakers.
A portion of the proceeds will also go to the chapter's scholarship fund. Qualified members are offered up to $100.00 each year to help further their education and careers.
If you would like to know more about this exciting Bratini event, please feel free to contact me. I'll be posting more details as they come available.
