BrokerIPTV: Hey, this is Mark Eibner at RE BarCamp Denver and I am with Kristal Kraft today and Kristal Kraft was the evil mastermind behind RE BarCamp. Tell us how are things going so far Kristal?
Kristal Kraft: Oh, it's great. I am absolutely delighted. We have had a great turnout. The speakers were fantastic and it seems like everyone is having a good time.
Interviewer: Yeah, I had heard you had up to 500 registrants at one time.
Kristal Kraft: You know, it got really close to that, but we didn't get that many come yet. We have got people coming in and out, so, you know, it's... it will probably be around 300, maybe a little over 300.
Interviewer: Yeah, so 300 is our body count. They still... it looks like they have still got shirts left, so some of those people didn't show up, the first 180?
Kristal Kraft: Well, you know, the people who are here are just drooling over those shirts. They are hoping those people don't show up, so... and oddly enough those were the people who signed up first. So....
Interviewer: Yeah, I have actually had people [Voice Cross Over] asking about this shirt. Is this like a collector's pirate shirt[Phonetic]? So, this was the pirate[Phonetic] shirt.
Kristal Kraft: Well, you could sell them. You will probably get, you know, a casino[Phonetic] for that at least.
Interviewer: Well, there is only four in Denver. Here is two and there is two more in someone's back seat.
Kristal Kraft: [laughs]
Interviewer: So, anybody you are looking forward yourself to listening to this afternoon?
Kristal Kraft: Yeah. Actually, I was hoping nobody would show up for Dave Smith's[Phonetic] class on HDR photography because I wanted him all to myself.
Interviewer: Oh.
Kristal Kraft: But I don't think that's going to happen. [laughs]
Interviewer: Yeah, you are lucky to have him out here. He is quite the catch to get out here.
Kristal Kraft: Yeah, he is... he writes the realestatebloglab and he is out of Tucson and anybody who is blogging or is on WordPress, they really need to subscribe to his blog. It's very, very good and he is also an amazing photographer.
Interviewer: What was the name of his blog again?
Kristal Kraft: It's called the realestatebloglab.com.
Interviewer: Well, we appreciate all you have done here, putting this together Kristal and we will look forward to seeing the rest today. Thank you.
Kristal Kraft: Thank you.
BrokerIPTV: Hi. This is Mark Eibner at RE BarCamp Denver and I have the distinct opportunity to be talking with Jeff Turner of RealEstateShows.com and Jeff, welcome to the show.
Jeff Turner: Thank you. Good to be here.
Interviewer: Hey, maybe you could give us some comments. I know you have been to a lot of REBarCamps. How do you think Denver is shaping up?
Jeff Turner: Well, it is interesting because I had... you know my concern with Denver was how many people had signed up. I think they had 540 or some odd people.
Interviewer: Yeah.
Jeff Turner: And the BarCamps are kind of organized around these sort of smaller groups where is heavy interaction, lots of discussion that takes place. The person leading the session is leading the session, but you know the success and the value really comes from the interaction with the audience and the question asking, but because of how many rooms they have here, I think it's working and so the big presentations on the main stage and the live streaming that's going on that you guys are doing is great.
Interviewer: Thank you.
Jeff Turner: And I think that's helping people and the other sessions are the right size and so I think it's working really well and I also liked the fact that they didn't do this mad rush to fill out the schedule. They did that all right before the main session, people arrived early. That was nicely done too because in other sessions, there has been a period of disorganization. Los Angeles was like that. It was, you know, kind of disorganized as people were trying to fight their way up to you know create their session titles.
Interviewer: Well, I loved your intro you gave about cutting the grass and using it... I mean that was great analogy.
Jeff Turner: Thank you.
Interviewer: Great analogy. Do you find that that's what most people are taking away from these events? It really just... it's about them and their voice and their space, right? It's not... nothing is right, nothing is wrong.
Jeff Turner: There is nothing right... there is nothing right, nothing wrong and I think for the most part what... that the people who are coming that are new to this, what it is doing is sort of breaking the ice for them. You know, it's giving them something to focus on that they can... they can grab onto that's real. I think the social media for a lot of them, for whatever reason, they don't make the connection to real life. That they have been doing this their entire lives, there is nothing different about networking online to realize, it's just that they have a false psychological barrier that keeps them from engaging with people online, that computer, the machine getting in the way of what is very natural; I mean this is natural. It's much easier for us to talk in real life than online because of the technology that gets in the way for most people. The moment they break that down, it becomes so much easier for them just to engage and talk normally the way they would have, they are standing there, like this today.
Interviewer: Well, appreciate you being here Jeff. Great information. Great intro. Anybody you are looking forward to seeing yourself this afternoon?
Jeff Turner: Mariana Wagner, I haven't... I have only seen her like 16 times today. We are going for a record on hugs.
Interviewer: Okay.
Jeff Turner: So, every time we see each other today, we are acting as if it's the first time we have seen each other. So, I am really looking forward to that next hug.
Interviewer: Yeah, I do see you guys interact a lot on Facebook. So, is there something I need to know about?
Jeff Turner: No, it's something Derek needs to know about, but not you.
Interviewer: All right. Great.
Jeff Turner: [laughs]
Interviewer: Thanks a lot Jeff. Appreciate it. See you.

Interviewer: And welcome Broker IPTV. Today's show is brought to you by Meridian Title and Escrow, Colorado's largest mortgage and real estate broker owned title insurance company. Today's guest is Ricardo Bueno, and Ricardo is coming to us from Los Angeles, California and Ricardo, welcome to the show.
Ricardo Bueno: Hey, thanks for having me. How is it going?
Interviewer: It's going well. I understand you are a freelance social media consultant or strategist and you work and build custom websites for brokers, is that right?
Ricardo Bueno: That's right. I am a social media consultant with the Real Estate Tomato and we design custom blog [Inaudible] for agents and we train through them the adoption process of social media for their business.
Interviewer: Excellent. So you are probably the right person to be in charge of REBarCamp, right?
Ricardo Bueno: [laughs] Well, I hate to toot my own horn, but I would hope so.
Interviewer: So, tell me about REBarCamp, what is REBarCamp?
Ricardo Bueno: Well, REBarCamp is... it stands for Real Estate Bar Camp and it's essentially a one day free social media conference for the real estate space. It's being held bar camp style[Phonetic], so it should work out to be a pretty good event.
Interviewer: Great and you got roped into this event by how?
Ricardo Bueno: [laughs] We attended Real Estate Blog World last year. I forget the date when that was, but I was sitting at a dinner with Rich Jacobson - the community builder for Active Rain Corporation, Irina Netchaev, and Jeff Dowler, real estate agents, we are just talking about different conferences that are going on and what a lot of real estate folks are doing as far as adopting social media into their marketing and you know one thing led to another and the conversation ended up turning, "You know Ricardo, why don't you try hosting a real estate bar camp?" [Voice Cross Over]
Interviewer: There you go, Real Estate Bar Camp, Los Angeles.
Ricardo Bueno: My hometown, so I thought why not, let's give this a shot.
Interviewer: What's the date on that? Now, you are having it this year?
Ricardo Bueno: The date is set for Thursday, April 2nd. We got a space over at the Pasadena Hilton. So, we would probably be doing a couple of things before, but we will have more details on that coming up on the website, but we are set to go live Thursday April 2nd from 9 to 5 and probably have a after party to kick things up[Phonetic]. [Voice Cross Over]
Interviewer: So, April 1st, you will be having a pre-event that evening?
Ricardo Bueno: That's correct. We have the Active Rain guys and several other folks coming in from out of town. So, we thought it would be a good time to get together with them and you know do something the night before. Stacey Harmon is going to help in organizing... is helping organize something, set something up so we should be good.
Interviewer: So, for agents that are wondering out there, what... #1, what REBarCamp is, it's social media, this would probably be the prime eight or nine hours to spend and see if social media is right for you, right?
Ricardo Bueno: Oh yeah. I mean the cool thing about the bar camp model, in this REBarCamp is that it's not a vendor fair. So, it's going to do a couple of things; it's going to... first of all pull people's guard down, so you know because it's not a vendor driven event, people aren't going to be hesitant to show up you know and fear being sold something.
Interviewer: Right.
Ricardo Bueno: And it's going to ensure that we have really individuals who are passionate about this stuff. So, I think there will be a lot more collaboration and energy going on throughout the room; it's really learn all of this stuff.
Interviewer: Okay. Well, tell me about your sponsors; it looks like Diverse Solutions, Zillow?
Ricardo Bueno: Yeah. We got a lot of great sponsors, both national and local. We got Diverse Solutions, Zillow, Retrove: The Real Estate Search Engine. We got Altos Research, Cyber Homes, The Real Estate Tomato, and Active Rain.
Interviewer: Excellent.
Ricardo Bueno: And in terms of the local folks, it's really exciting to see a lot of local folks are showing interest. We got CV Escrow, SoCal CRS, Up-2-Date Real Estate, and a few other brokerages really showing some interest.
Interviewer: Why don't you give me some names real quick as far as some of your speakers you already have planned to speak at the event? Jeff Turner?
Ricardo Bueno: Well, yeah, we got Jeff Turner, you know Real Estate Shows, Dustin Luther with 4realz Consulting, we got Jim Marks, we got Jeff [Inaudible] over in Active Rain and few of the other Active Rain folks. Ginger Wilcox is coming into town. Reggie Nicolay [Phonetic] should be coming in and so it's turning out to be a pretty good line up.
Interviewer: Actually, well, those are some big powerful names as far as social media in real estate. So, it should be a good show; so, if they need information, they go to rebarcamp.com/losangeles, is that what your domain is?
Ricardo Bueno: Yeah, that's correct, it's rebarcamp.com/losangeles, everything there from our about to the RSVP is on the site and any more information, they could always get in touch with me.
Interviewer: Great. Well, lots of good information Ricardo. We appreciate you coming on for this interview today and we will be talking to you soon.
Ricardo Bueno: I think [Inaudible].
Interviewer: You bet.
Announcer: Once again the dates out there for REBarCamp Los Angeles is Thursday, April 2nd and they are planning some pre-event festivities on April 1st, April Fool's day. So, that should probably be a great one to attend especially with some of the members that I know are being there on April Fool's day. The slide here shows you it's the Pasadena Hilton, 168 South Los Robles Avenue in Pasadena, California. We have got the sponsors up here, Diverse Solutions, Zillow, Retrove, Altos Research, Cyber Homes, The Real Estate Tomato, and Active Rain; also, some local sponsors CV Escrow, Southern Cal CRS, and Up-2-Date Real Estate. Once again, that domain name was rebarcamp.com/losangeles. Lots of great speakers there, Jeff Turner, Dustin Luther, Jim Marks, Ginger Wicox, and of course Ricardo will be speaking with Chris Hotz from the Real Estate Tomato. Hope to see you all there. Broker IPTV is working on having coverage of the event. Have a great day.
BrokerIPTV Today we are talking with Kirby Smith, Metro Brokers Cherry Tree Properties. Welcome.
Kirby Smith: Thank you Dan.
BrokerIPTV Glad you are here and one of the topics we are going to cover today is affiliated business arrangements and you are with Meridian Escrow and Title, but you are also a realtor with Metro Brokers. Talk about how that all came about.
Kirby Smith: Well, I have been a Metro Brokers... I have in the real estate business for... since 1995. I have been a Metro Broker from that time forward. I have never really looked into affiliated business arrangements until I was confronted with the Meridian Title and Escrow company.
BrokerIPTV Opportunity. Also, a little back on your background we should tell people that you are the 2009 President for Metro Brokers. Congratulations.
Kirby Smith: Oh thank you.
BrokerIPTV What... what is involved there? Is it just a loft title or do they put you to hard work?
Kirby Smith: There is a lot of... there is a lot of time that goes into that and... but, you know Metro Brokers there is a lot of volunteers in the company, it is a volunteer run and we have an excellent staff as well. So, certainly, not alone.
BrokerIPTV Obviously a very strong company. So, great to be president of a company like that I bet.
Kirby Smith: Yes, it is.
BrokerIPTV All right. All the years that you have been in business, what were kind of the things that you heard about affiliated business relationships?
Kirby Smith: I hadn't... have really investigated affiliated business arrangements at all. I think there was a lot of misinformation out there that you know you had to be very careful and watch your step and I... so, I stayed away from them.
BrokerIPTV Yeah and so far the experience has been what? The exact opposite?
Kirby Smith: Oh, it has been absolutely the exact opposite, yeah.
BrokerIPTV And is it that much of a big deal with the consumer? I mean obviously you disclose to the consumer that you think they should have the title work done here and here is why and so forth, but I mean are they all caught up in the legality of it?
Kirby Smith: No. They are not. I mean we disclose that this is you know affiliated business arrangement, but the... it's a pretty easy thing to go... to talk about because they are saving a lot of money by using Meridian Title and Escrow.
BrokerIPTV And I imagine that's why you got into it because it was what? Rates and...?
Kirby Smith: Oh, absolutely.
BrokerIPTV And service?
Kirby Smith: Absolutely. Looking out for my clients to save them money and make sure that they are very well taken of.
BrokerIPTV Yeah. Talk a bit about some of the benefits like re-issue rates and things of that nature.
Kirby Smith: Well, you have a 10 year re-issue rate with Meridian Title and Escrow. That's big. Most people's mortgages never reach a 10 year mark and in some of the bigger companies, you will find that their re-issue rate might end at three years. So....
BrokerIPTV All right. So, your experience to say the least has been positive.
Kirby Smith: Absolutely.
BrokerIPTV Would you recommend other agents to get involved in you know an affiliated business arrangement?
Kirby Smith: Oh, absolutely. If you are looking out for your client, I think you really have to. I think you have to shop and find where they are going to get the best service and you know the best value for their dollar spent.
BrokerIPTV And why Meridian Title and Escrow?
Kirby Smith: I think it's all because of service.
BrokerIPTV All right. Kirby, thanks for being us. Great having you here.
Kirby Smith: Thank you Dan.
BrokerIPTV: Today we are talking with Vali Wimberly from The Berkshire Group. Welcome to the show. Glad to have you.
Vali Wimberly: Thanks, it's good to be here.
BrokerIPTV: Well, we are talking about RE BarCamp, Denver. What is RE BarCamp, Denver?
Vali Wimberly: That's a good question. I get that question a lot actually. BarCamp is going to be a one day convention and it's anybody in the real estate industry, not necessarily realtors, but anybody who wants to know a little bit more about being a little bit more tech smart[Phonetic].
BrokerIPTV: Yeah. Now, I understand your group is part of the group that has helped organize the event. Is that true and how did you get involved?
Vali Wimberly: Yeah. Absolutely. I actually... I got recruited by Todd Carpenter and Krystal Kraft. They wanted somebody else to help them out with the entire function and I said yes.
BrokerIPTV: Now, what is the guts[Phonetic] of this? People get together and they kind of share ideas, is that a little bit of how it goes?
Vali Wimberly: Yes. It is... I think the best way to describe it is with the word unconference[Phonetic]. It's a day of really good information, but in the beginning of the day we don't have a schedule. We essentially make the schedule based on what people submit at our website of what they would like to hear and they would like to learn more about and also the day of the conference in the morning, we kind of survey who is there and see what they want to know.
BrokerIPTV: And are you just like picking a speaker out of the group that happens to be there or are these people booked in advanced type of thing?
Vali Wimberly: That's a good question. We have a lot of the people, the who's who of the different social medias and blogging that are already there. So, we are picking people that are very knowledgeable about it and they are coming to it.
BrokerIPTV: All right. Now, this is the first of its kind in Denver, is that correct?
Vali Wimberly: It is and we are really excited about it because there has been a few across the nation and they have generated a lot of just good information and a lot of excitement. So, we are really happy to have one in Denver here finally.
BrokerIPTV: What other cities have kind of undertaken this little adventure?
Vali Wimberly: Well, the first one was in San Francisco and Seattle just had one recently. They had over 400 people sign up.
BrokerIPTV: Wow.
Vali Wimberly: And pretty much a couple of hundred people came to that one. So, there was really, really good information at the same time lots of attendees.
BrokerIPTV: Give me some examples of the topics you are going to cover.
Vali Wimberly: Well, again, it is going to be a lot of tech stuff, but a lot of blogging for business, click to closing, things like social media sites and how to really use them to your advantage, Facebook and Twitter. I mean how does that help you in business, a lot of people don't really make that connection and we will definitely be talking about that at a basic level and at a very advanced level as well.
BrokerIPTV: Who can attend?
Vali Wimberly: Anybody, anybody who wants to know more about this. So, it can be somebody who knows a lot will have advanced sessions. For people that want to know more about maximizing SEO and stuff about like basic beginning blogging, it just really depends on what the people want to hear that are there.
BrokerIPTV: Yeah. Cost?
Vali Wimberly: It's absolutely free. That's one of the best things.
BrokerIPTV: Oh, that's great.
Vali Wimberly: Yeah.
BrokerIPTV: That's the best cost you can get.
Vali Wimberly: Yeah.
BrokerIPTV: All right. How about where is the event being held and when?
Vali Wimberly: Well, it's going to be... it's at 7100 East Belleview, which is at the Armbrust Real Estate College and MetroList. It's in the building and we are going to... they have been very generous, they have donated their facilities and so that's where we are going to have lots of space to have all the different sessions.
BrokerIPTV: And how does somebody sign up?
Vali Wimberly: They sign up online on our site. It's rebarcamp.com/denver.
BrokerIPTV: Vali, thanks, appreciate you being here.
Vali Wimberly: My pleasure.
