Harborwalk Festival 2011

Come down to the waterfront in Georgetown, South Carolina this Saturday 5/21 for the Harborwalk Festival held on Front Street from 10am-6pm! There will be over 100 vendors and a lot of events taking place! There will be two stages with loads of fun entertainment! Come on out, bring the family, bring your dog, and join the town in celebrating their Annual Harborwalk Festival celebration!!!!

We will have our tent up with drawings and give aways so be sure to stop by! Hope to see you all there! Our booth will have a water station for our furry friends FYI.

"Turtle Walkers" in Pawleys Island, SC are some very dedicated individuals. Their mission is to protect the nests of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. Many of these walkers get up very early on a daily basis to walk the beach in search of turtle tracks and their nests. It sometimes takes years for these individuals to even find their first set of tracks or a nest. However, if they do find some tracks and it ends at a body pit made by a nesting turtle, there is a strong possibility that there are 100-400 eggs under the sand somewhere in the body pit area. If a nest is indeed found, they are required to contact the SC United Turtle Enthusiasts (SCUTE). Once these highly trained and certified (SC Dept. of Natural Resources) are contacted, they are allowed to probe the nest and handle the eggs.

Quite often, people that are out walking the beach will see and find these nests once they are marked and blocked off to see what is happening. The turtle walkers in Pawleys Island are glad to inform them and educate them about the loggerheads in our area. The more people that know about this, the more they will be willing to protect this endangered species.

Some ways you can help or share with other people would be by turning off your lights by 10:00 p.m., removing trash, tents, and furniture and fill all holes that have been dug throughout the day.

Most turtle walkers and beach combers in the morning will experience beautiful sunrises, seeing pods of dolphins near shore, washed up rare seashells and will experience an adventure of looking and protecting our Loggerhead turtles of Pawleys Island.
