The Bite and Brew in Salem, Oregon. Things to do this Weekend in Salem, Oregon.

The last weekend in July is always exciting at Riverfront Park in Salem, Oregon. That is the weekend that the Bite and Brew is held. This fun event includes live music, good eats and, of course, brew. Carnival rides are also on site to provide some thrills. The dates and times for this year’s Bite and Brew are July 29, 30 and 31st. The Bite and Brew opens at 11 am on all 3 days. The event schedule is packed full of great music and other entertainment.

Do you have a favorite Bite and Brew story to tell? I do. I went with a large group of girlfriends to enjoy some live music and check out all of the other entertainment, and one of my good friends met her husband in the beer gardens. No Kidding!! So you never know what can happen at the Bite and Brew.

Salem Oregon Riverfront Park and 4th of July fireworks celebrations

I was driving in to the office, which is right by Riverfront Park, yesterday and seen the set up going on for the carnival and events at the Waterfront. I don't know what it is about a carnival, but it makes me feel like a little kid again for a few minutes. I get that happy, oh I want to go, feeling. If you are doing a "staycation" this 4th of July weekend, there are a few options for 4th of July celebrations right around here.

Salem, Oregon-Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot and Chocolate for Valentine's Weekend.

wine and chocolate

What could be better than wine and chocolate for Valentine's Day? Spending a few hours at Willamette Valley Vineyards on the 12th and 13th of February from 11 am to 6 pm, where you can enjoy tasting many different Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noirs. The cost is $10 and includes a Riedel wine glass for your tasting adventure. This event is also the one time a year where we have the opportunity to taste the fabulous 2008 Pinot Noir Quinta Reserva Port Style. This is the only event where the port is featured as a tasting choice. We went last year and upgraded to the cellar pass for $5 so that we could enjoy barrel tasting, and it was worth every penny to taste the port and other selections in the cellar. The candlelit cellar provides the perfect romantic background for indulging yourself and your loved one with decadent specialty chocolates and wonderfully exquisite Pinot Noirs.

Chocolate Vendors on hand include Extreme Chocolates and Bursts Candies. We sampled some absolutely delicious and sinful chocolates last year. Some of the chocolates were very unique with ingredients that sounded a little strange, but actually went very well together. Just typing this post is making me think about how good last year was. I can't wait for the 12th and 13th!! See you there!

Buying a Salem, Oregon Home-When Do We Get Our Keys?

Buying a Salem, Oregon Home-When Do We Get Our Keys?

Buying a Salem, Oregon home-when do we get the keys?

This is an interesting question, because depending on which state you buy a home in, the answer varies. In some states you actually get the keys at the closing table. If you are buying a home in the Salem, Oregon area, however, several steps need to take place before I can give you your keys to your new home.

1. Once loan documents are received by the title company, we will make an appointment for all us to go to the title company and sign your loan documents. You will also bring a cashiers check for your downpayment and closing costs to this appointment, or make arrangements to have the amount wired from your bank to the title company.

2. Once your loan documents have been signed, the title company will then overnight your documents to the lender for final review, so that the lender can release the funds (your loan amount) that will pay off the seller for the purchase of their home.

3. Once the funds are received by the title company, they will take care of getting the seller any money that they have coming to them, and pay off the seller's loan which then clears the way for the title company to record the sale at the courthouse.

4. The title company will then go to the courthouse to record the sale, and the new deed with you as the new owner.

5. Once the title company has notified me that all of these items have been performed, I can give you your keys to your new home.

The amount of time that this takes can vary, but generally this process takes between 24 and 48 hours after we sign documents. There are rare cases where your mortgage broker can arrange for a table funding. If a table funding occurs, then we only need to wait for the title company to take care of steps 3 and 4. Depending on what time of day that we sign, I may be able to give you your keys the same day. Title companies generally make those trips to the courthouse twice a day. Once in the late morning, and once at the end of the day, around 4:30.
