Pittsburgh: Old and New Haunts

PNC Park Storm

Pittsburgh Skyline.

On a recent trip through Pittsburgh, PA., my wife took some pictures of the local catholic Grade School I attended in the 1970's. The irony is that the Gothic Style School/Church has been converted to a Jewish Community Center. The property is also well known for having been a filming location for Sharon Stone's remake of La Diabolique- Diabolic. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116095/locations Stick with the original.

Pittsburgh can boast to having the best Ballpark in the US, PNC Park. (As long as the weather cooperates.)

Pittsburgh has a great small city charm and has affordable real estate particularly for for first time buyers: currently I am doing an FHA Loan for a client just outside of Pittsburgh. Many times I have seen Pittsburgh listed in the top 20 best places to live or retire in the US.

Y'ns know what I mean?

Vintage Base Ball In NJ: Elizabeth Athletic Club

EAC Base Ball Club 2008

Here is a little blurb about the Vintage Base Ball Club I play with in Union County, NJ. We are currently looking to expand our roster:

The Elizabeth Athletic Club base ball team recreates our national pastime by using the rules, equipment, and playing conditions of 1891. A member club of the national Vintage Base Ball Association, the EAC is in it's ninth year of competition. Over the weekend of May 17 and 18 they won the annual Gotham Cup Tournament held in Central Park, New York City, defeating the Glen Head Zig Zags, a club from Long Island. The same Zig Zag club came to Rahway River Park on June 8 and exacted some revenge by besting the EAC on their home turf.

"Playing base ball ( two words in the nineteenth century ) by 1891 rules is a real challenge", said Paul Salomone, the EAC captain. "You don't have modern protective equipment like batting helmets. Many of the players play without gloves. Normally only the catcher and first basemen use gloves, although you'll see the occasional infielder or outfielder with a mitt. This is possible because we use the corkless, or 'dead' ball that was used in 1891."

The EAC travels around the Northeast and plays other clubs that play by different nineteenth century rules. Those clubs also visit the EAC at Rahway River Park. The next home game is on July 26 against New Jersey's only other vintage base ball club, the Flemington Neshanock. The day will feature a double-header, one game each in 1873 and 1891 rules. Anyone interested in joining the EAC should visit their website, eaclub.org, and e-mail the captain at PaulQuickstep@aol.com . Or come to Rahway River Park on July 26 at 12 noon and watch the games.
