In case I forget later...DICK BETTS ROCKS! This past Thursday in Tallahassee was the second day of training by the famous National Speaker Real Estate, Dick Betts.

The agenda for the day included Text Google, Google Maps and about 15 other items that are now indespensible to my business. Dick presents himself well and makes two days of training fly by!

Let me preface this posting by saying DICK BETTS ROCKS! Today in Tallahassee, sponsored by the Tallahassee Board of Realtors, Dick Betts lead two sessions on how to improve one's knowledge, and more importantly use of Smartphones.
Dick (in the photo below as the younger, more svelt fellow and yours truly) is outstanding at taking what can be a confusing issue and making it simple for everyone to understand.
Today's morning session included entitled Smartphone fundamentals where he taught everything from adjusting the font size of the display, to calibrating the display, beaming data (especially your business card), managing contacts, quick search and attaching a note to a contact.
Besides the fact that Dick has a great sense of humor, is well spoken and communicates clearly, I really appreciate how he explains each feature with a focus on how you can use this to improve your business and make more money! Dick understands the heart of our business is connecting to people and he shows how Smartphone technology can help.
I will write more about day 2 of this fabulous training after tomorrow.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I need to admit that this is the third year in a row of attending every session Dick leads at the Tallahassee Board of Realtors. Every time I learn new applications or expanded applications of my Smartphone. Dicks' sessions have helped me in my farm area of Piney Z here in Tallahassee, my general contact management and in improving my efficiency in time management.
If your local Board of Realtors has not had Dick Betts present, you need to schedule him right away. He will change the way you use your phone forever and you will make more money and create a "higher personal touch' with your customers.

The city of Tallahassee was honored last week by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) as a Gold Certified Green City. Tallahassee is the first city in Florida to be awarded a Gold Designation under the FGBC Green City Local Government Standard. This is a move upward from the Silver award Tallahassee received last year. The FGBC is an independent non-profit organization established in 2000 to promote green building construction practices in Florida.
The Tallahassee community is really serious about doing what it can to be environmentally sound and reducing the concrete footprint of town, especially compared to most urban developments.
This award for the city has to do with their internal focus of things like paperless payroll, but this just mirrors our other efforts in protecting wildlife, preserving trees, creating water retention areas etc.

Again this week a home inspection has proven vital for a buyer of mine. No, there were not any major defects found that are going to blow up the sale. There were some things discovered that could have been issues later-and will not become so-because we will deal with them now.
To me this is the beauty of the home inspection. Not that they are infallible, but they are certainly not deal busters like many real estate professionals feel.
Maybe it is a result of me not being a particularly handy fellow, but I am always relieved by the news of the inspection-whether I am the listing or buying Realtor. Always of proponent of clearing the air, the home inspection provides wonderful news, even if the remedy is expensive.
If you have a problem or potential problem and you are the homeowner, it seems disingenuous to me to not make the repairs required regardles of whether these are warranted items or not. If you are the buyer, what is more comforting in the transaction then when the seller steps up to make these repairs.
We have to get people out of the we win, they lose mentalitity in real estate transactions and realize that both parties are winners when a deal is completed! A good home inspection coupled with a reliable home warranty is my recipe for creating happy buyers and sellers. Don't you agree?
This is such a great area to live in. Recently my wife, Laurie and I took our two sons to Wakulla Springs. One son is in medical school rotations in Atlanta and the younger is a junior at Western Illinois University. Take a look for yourself and see if this was an enjoyable day...keep in mind this was January 3rd!

We even saw the manatees that are wintering here, outstanding waterfowl and a few snakes. When you visit Wakulla Springs you learn of the movies that were made there like Tarzan or Airport 77. It is a fun filled afternoon and just one of the many natural attractions in the Tallahassee area.
