Slippery Band's Annual St. Patrick's Day Event-March 15, 2008

Every January I start receiving calls from tenants looking to book a property for a weekend in March. The reason? Slippery Band at The Ocean Drive.

Slippery Band plays an annual show at The OD, you can catch them THIS Saturday, March 15th at 9 pm.

I recently caught up with Chris Noon of Stone Groove Productions and Slippery Band, who was nice enough to answer a few questions.

1. Tell me a little about your company Stone Groove Productions.

Stone Groove is a music management company founded in 1993 & based in the Philly area representing bands & musicians - both original music & nightclub/cover bands. Our goal is to build long careers and relationships with the artists we represent - our motto is "musicians for musicians".

2. You also manage & perform with Slippery Band. How would you describe the band and the type of music Slippery Band plays?

Slippery Band is an 8 piece band (including a horn section) and we're really just a party band. We play many styles & genres but our goal is & has always been the same - playing music that makes our audience happy.

3. I understand that Slippery Band now plays mostly at weddings and corporate functions. Is that a different style show than what we get to see in Sea Isle at The Ocean Drive?

Slippery Band was a nightclub band for many years (1989 thru 2001) and the Ocean Drive in Sea Isle City was our home base for a decade. We all grew up playing on that stage every Saturday for 11 straight summers. In 2001, we decided that we'd had a great run & moved in another direction, performing at corporate events & weddings. Yes, our OD show will be different - we'll bring back some older material that wouldn't be "wedding friendly" & really it's just a chance to reconnect for a night with some old friends & have a great time. Plus we won't have to wear suits & ties!

4. Will Slippery Band be performing anywhere else at the shore this year? Where else can our readers catch Slippery Band if they're unable to make it to Sea Isle this weekend?

St Patty's at The OD is always our only public appearance at the shore, though we do play many weddings from Cape May to Avalon to the AC area. The OD will be our only nightclub date in 2008, but we do make appearances at a few Festivals & charity events throughout the year. You can always find that info on our website.

5. Are there any other bands or artists that you work with who have upcoming shows in the shore area?

Yes, but they won't be getting down here until the summertime!

6. Where can we find more information on Stone Groove Productions, Slippery Band and the other talent you work with?

Please visit our site http://www.slipperyband.com/ for info on Slippery Band and http://www.stonegroove.com/ for info on the other acts that we represent. Thanks for your time!

If you're in the area, or even within driving distance, come check out this event: Slippery Band Saturday March 15th at 9 pm For more information email or call The Ocean Drive at (609) 263-1000.

Down The Shore With...Me

Jen A. Miller, author and blogger, recently interviewed me for the "Down The Shore With" series on her blog.

You can read it here.

Jen previously interviewed Zoey Castelino, an author, blogger and Sea Isle native that I'm a big fan of. It was an honor to be asked, I think I may have said "Yes!" while pumping my fist in the air when I received Jen's email. She's also interviewed many other authors with NJ related books, a photographer, and local business owners so I'm in great company.

It was a lot of fun, and we got to cover some interesting things about Sea Isle and the real estate market.

You may remember Jen's name from this post. Her book is now available for pre-order, and amazon is offering a 5% discount on pre-orders, as if you needed another reason to buy it.

Special thanks to Jen for thinking of me and giving me the opportunity!

Rental Property Inspections To Take Place

We've taken a few calls from rental property owners about the letters they've received from the city informing them that their property is scheduled for an inspection. I contacted the construction office to determine exactly what the inspections will entail.

The state requires that the city inspect rental properties every few years to determine that the home is safe to rent. The inspections will be done by the building inspector, who will pick up your property key from your rental agent on the day before inspection. The building inspector will be inspecting as many properties as humanly possible prior to the beginning of the rental season.

The questionnaire that owners filled out when applying for their rental mercantile license will be used as the basis for the inspection. If you would like a copy of the questionnaire email me and I will send that to you.

The questions on the form are mostly about safety issues (Do all doors lock, are fire exits unobstructed, are there any exposed wires, are the decks in good shape, etc) and issues relating to tenants (Are the occupancy and number of bathrooms stated correctly, are there enough trash cans with lids for trash and recycles, have you informed tenants that Sea Isle City mandates separate trash and recycling, etc.)

As you can see, the rental inspections are no cause for alarm. I'm confident that the owners we represent will have no issues during the inspections. If you have any questions, feel free to call our office at (800) Sea-Isle or the construction office at (609) 263-1160.
