Military families stationed at Hunter Army Airfield (HAAF) or Fort Stewart looking for something to do when your loved ones return on redeployment? Are you having Holiday guests coming into the Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport and need some ideas for day trips to explore? Georgia’s neighboring state South Carolina offers a wide range of Entertainment and Leisure excursions.
Hilton Head Island just approximately 45 miles north of Savannah via I-95 (Interstate 95) is a product of many cultures, history and backgrounds. Dating back to 1521 when the Spanish left their mark on the Island to 1663 when Sir William Hilton claimed the land of the new world for England. By 1698 land grants resulted in large plantations mostly growing Indigo and the area of Hilton Head made a mark on the map.
The Coastal Georgia and South Carolina region is full of history. Below you find a list of some historic sites and museums in the Hilton Head Island area that are within an hours drive from the FT Stewart and Hunter Airfield area.
