I was poor as a child..considered below poverty level but as a kid..you really don't understand..all I knew I was rich with love...a love so strong a mother sacrificed her children to allow them a better life...I remember...I don't forget...and sometimes I cry.
I think about what could have happened...appreciation for the egg sandwich we ate for dinner just about every night...or the bread milk and sugar..our breakfast bowls consist of...as a child..I ate it... as an adult... I never understood how I could...thank goodness I wasn't spoiled...I appreciated it...the soggy wet sugar bread..and to think I really believed it was poverty for a good part of my life!
The highlight of the week came when the Salvation Army came by...relief...generosity..and good food. A full course meal..to me fit for a queen. I was lucky but some would still view as poverty...I thought so too until I really understood what poverty meant!
I raised 3 boys alone, it was not easy starting a new career and with three growing boys in the house..my life changed..and new worries came in...how do you feed these boys and keep the lights on?..sometimes I made choices...choices not easy for anyone...the type of choices..that makes you cry and sometimes feel so much shame... sometime I would sit up at night and think just how the hell did this happen to me?..sometimes the lights went out.but somehow we managed and things that we needed always seem to come to us.... I did everything I could to keep my boys growing strong...I'm not ashamed..this is who I am and where I came from and to think I really believed we were poverty stricken....
One thing was certain...I was loved and so were my boys and we go back and talk about those days. While it was a very stressful and scary time in my life...my boys remember it different.
Today is blog action day, to me it's not just blogging about poverty...do something to help...to make a difference...it starts in your backyard...throughout your state...travels around the globe..your action today..may cause someone feeling appreciation for the first time in their life, someone to eat a hot meal....or even have running water.
So I thought I had heard of everything until today, the listing machine cornered me and told about his latest fund raiser. Hospice of Volusia/Flagler's 1st Annual Rubber Duck Race..and guess what? I adopted a lucky duck..for $5.00 you can adopt your own rubber duck. No not for your tub...but for the rubber ducky race!
There are so many prizes so go check out www.hovfduckrace.org....and hopefully my rubber ducky will win!

Today my heart is extremely heavy. It's a very sad day for the CENTURY 21 Sundance Family and the Dance family. George Dance, loving husband to Nancy Dance and father and grandfather of a very large group passed away today.
Not only was he a pillar in the community but has inspired many including myself and many others.
There really are no words to make things better, there are only memories that we all keep close to our hearts.
Funeral arrangements have been made:
Craig Funeral Home, 115 Old Kings Road, Flagler Beach, Florida October 9th, 3pm is visitation and 4 p.m. is the service.
Please, continue fighting for a cure for cancer but most of all tell your loved ones how much they mean to you today!
Godspeed George Dance...you will be missed. Nancy Dance and family...you are loved and in our thoughts and prayers!
Today Kim Wood sent me a tweet and reminded me it is Cancer Awareness Month and make sure and spread the word. This evening in my email I recieved this important message. Rather than go through my address book I decided to share with the masses. Please I encourage you to reblog this or even forward this post to your friends and loved ones.
This disease touches so many and changes lives forever..we can do the same but in a positive way!
Help me Fight Cancer...the reality is there is a good chance someone you love will be affected by this disease. Please take the time and read this email.
You never know...by following the instructions you might save a human life!
Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle).
This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.
