The City of Newton Parks & Recreation Department’s annual Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Park in Newton.
This year’s event will be divided into three age divisions: ages 1–3, ages 4–6, and ages 7–10. Prizes will be awarded in all three age divisions to children who find the crazy eggs, the largest eggs, the smallest eggs, the most unusual eggs, the golden eggs, various prize eggs, and the most eggs.

Catawba Valley Community College’s Potters’ Workshop will hold a one-day workshop on “Asian Style Wheel Throwing” on Saturday April 14, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring guest instructor and ceramic artist Po-Wen Liu.
“Asian Style Wheel Throwing” is designed for students with all levels of expertise and those interested in expanding their pottery techniques. The workshop will demonstrate Asian style techniques on the potter’s wheel to create bowls, large platters, vases and jars. It will encompass altering and decorating wheel thrown pieces directly on the potter’s wheel and how to efficiently turn well-fit lids.

The Catawba County Library will mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with a presentation by Dr. Melinda Ratchford at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday April 10, 2012 at the Main Library in Newton NC.
Ratchford, a professor at Belmont Abbey College and a long-time history buff, has studied about the Titanic and has collected memorabilia about the ship for more than 50 years. She will share examples from her collection and will discuss her recent visit to the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where the ship was built.
