Taylorsville NC Apple Festival
October 17, 2009 from 9:00am - 5:00pm
The streets of Taylorsville fill to overflowing for the Annual Taylorsville Apple Festival which draws an estimated 30,000 attendees and hosts over 250 exhibit booths. The festival provides a fantastic assortment of entertainment, food and vendors.
The festival boasts 3 entertainment stages: The Main Stage on the courthouse lawn, the Gospel Stage at the west end of the festival, and the Children's Stage on the east end of the festival. The Kid's Korner is the biggest draw for our younger attendees.
The Kid's Korner has hosted in the past, pony rides, mechanical bucking bull rides, pitching booths, numerous professional inflatables, puppet shows, music and much more.
Food vendors surround the courthouse emitting some of the most wonderful smells and best tasting food you'll find in the Carolinas. One can find, chopped barbeque, eggrolls, hamburgers and hotdogs, barbeque chicken, Italian sausages, and the list goes on.

Friends of Hickory Public Library Annual Book Sale Set for Oct. 8 to 11

WHY Proceeds will allow the library to purchase items and present programs that are not included in its regular budget.
HOW MUCH hard covers $1.00 or $2.00 depending on condition, paperbacks $.50, and children's books $.50 to $2.00
Thursday, Oct. 8 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. is Friends' Night. Members only are offered first choice of the books. Memberships are available at the door.
The sale is open to the public on Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday features the "Bag of Books Sale" from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. Fill a grocery bag (bags provided) with books for just $3.00.
The books offered for sale have been removed from the library's shelves or donated by area residents. Prices are: hard covers $1.00 or $2.00 depending on condition, paperbacks $.50, and children's books $.50 to $2.00.
A selection of special books may be offered at a slightly higher price. Some encyclopedias, National Geographic magazines, books on tape, cassettes and videos will also be available.

Catawba County Bikes for Tykes Program
The Hickory Fire Department, in conjunction with the Christmas Bureau, is asking for new and like new bikes and tricycles for needy children to be given out at Christmas time.
Last year 615 brand new bikes and 500 helmets were donated.
If you have a bike or tricycle that you would like to donate, please drop them off at any of the Hickory fire stations between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The main drop off point will be fire station #5 located on Sweetwater Road.
Persons needing directions or having questions, please call 828-323-7420.
The "Bikes for Tykes" program is an effort to benefit needy children served by the Catawba County Christmas Bureau.
The toys will then be distributed through the Catawba County Christmas Bureau at the American Legion Fairgrounds in December.
