The Shipwreck Grill Opens In Bryan

The old "Boat" restaurant located in Bryan, Texas reopened today as the new Shipwreck Grill. Mike Powell a commercial specialist at our firm, Classic Realty Associates, helped transact the lease on the restaurant and did a really great job of bringing it all together by representing the tenants.

The restaurant is located between S. College Ave. and Cavitt Street and faces Villa Maria in Bran. If you are looking for a great place to grab a delicious lunch or dinner then stop by the grill soon! We did today at the opening. About half our office showed up to enjoy everything from shrimp Poor Boys to hamburgers. That's Mike Powell on the far right at our table.

Make Your Own Dirt Real Cheap!

Soil is mostly a product of living matter. Why go to the nursery the next time you need some garden soil for you backyard or potted plants? It is not difficult to set up your own little "dirt factory" right in the backyard. You can compost the majority of the organic matter that leaves your kitchen and at the same time cut down on the stink that radiates from your garbage can. All you have to do is save your leaves from the trees, your grass clippings, and kitchen waste and you to could be well on the way to your very own little dirt factory! And if you recycle your plastic and glass you are hardly puttinanything at all into the local city dump.

Is That Not Green?

Our factory has been in operation for about 5 years now and cranks out about 2 wheelbarrow loads of rich soil a month.

Good luck on starting your Dirt Factory!

What Is Blooming this Week In Central Texas?

It seems like the hotter it gets in our area ...the more our flowers bloom. I am talking hot! We have already had over 40 days here this summer over 100! But the flowers like it a lot. All they require right now is water and they keep on blooming . Here is a a brief selection of what is blooming this week in our back yard. We are certainly grateful for the eye candy and the butterflies and honey bees are too! Seems like the pollen spreaders are coming later each year though. Maybe it is the weather patterns changing.

Turk's Cap

Century Plant

Mexican Petunias

Butterfly Bush

Need help on what can best stand the heat in our area? Call me. If you are thinking of selling your home next year....then what you plant this fall... could be blooming when you go on the market next year.

Wreck of the Week

It seems that there is almost a wreck a week, sometimes more on the section of Hwy 6 in Texas between Bryan-College Station and Hearne. The goal to help prevent this is to eventually have the highway to be divided all the way north to Waco. I am sure this will help cut down on fatalities but in the meantime I am sure there will be many more. We have already seen friends lose their daughter on this stretch.

Many of the accidents involve large tractor trailer rigs like this one that I came on last week. There is a small car you can't see ( that is behind the yellow Truck) that looks like an accordian. Also I had just past another accident on Hwy 6 that shut down both lanes for hours when a pedestrian was run over by a Rig. Recently I got behind a gravel haul truck that almost hit me . He was doing 90 mph with a full load. How would you like to get hit by That!!!!

Texas needs to hurry up and finish the construction on Texas HWY 6 .

Will Petrified Wood Help Sell A Home?

I have been intrigued by petrified wood ever since I was a small boy growing up on the outskirts of town. I would wander the pastures and find bits and pieces of the rocks, and stuff my pockets with them, many of which would end up in mother's washing machine. We had a local museum and I would take boxes of the stuff to them (as if they needed any) . To a 9 year old petrified wood was an Indiana Jones type discovery. Later in life I got to visit the Petrified wood forest in Arizona. I thought I was in petrified wood heaven! http://www.shannontech.com/ParkVision/PetForest/PetWood.html

Then later I married a gardener that likes petrified wood more than me, and she asks me to bring home every piece I find when we are hunting or fishing or just exploring. I have always wanted to sell a petrified wood home. We actually have quite a few in this area, but haven't been fortunate yet to list a home covered with the handsome rocks.

Recently I listed a wonderful custom home belonging to a couple who have been farmers and ranchers for many years. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1187137/-college-station-texas-style-home

They have a gravel mine on their property where they lived at before, where many petrified pieces and have been recovered, some being the size of a Volkswagen. The home they listed with me is in town, but that didn't stop them from using trailers and tractors to get some wonderful huge petrified logs delivered to their current residence. They are willing to leave these wonderful landscape objects with the property for the new owners. My favorite is this one which they use as a planter. What a conversation piece. Talk about eternal! Also they built in a neat petrified wood insert above the fireplace mantel that really sets off that wall as well.
