Yesterday my family spent the day out on Lake Houston. The wind was blowing more than I would have liked but for the most part it was the perfect family outing.
We normally put the boat in the water at the Lake Houston Marina in Huffman but we decided to go on the other side of the lake and launch from Duessen Park. I remember visiting this park when I was a child and I was telling the kids how there once were Buffalo inside the park (you could see in their eyes that they weren't quite sure whether to believe me or not). We continued to drive through this very large park. The land that the park is located is a total of 309 acres. It was donated to Harris County by Alexander Duessen (a Petroleum Geologist) in 1956. I was amazed at how many people came out to enjoy this park with their friends and families. There was a large family that rented out one of the pavilions, numerous groups grilling on the grills, a volleyball game going on, croquet was getting pretty competitive, several fish were being pulled up on the bank...I could go on and on about all the happy faces we seen from all nationalities and walks of life. It was a very heart warming sight!!
We were on our way through the park when I noticed a large duck pond with a protected sanctuary off in a corner to the left of the lake. There were ducks every where bathing in the sun and waiting for the next child to slip them a potato chip or a piece of bread...the ducks were in Heaven! As we continued around the winding road, enjoying the scenery there it was. The red sign pointing it's way to the Buffaloes!! There were not one or two but many. many Buffaloes! In the middle of Houston was a herd of Buffalo that were as much at home as if they were in the middle of the wild. You can only imagine my delight in proving that the Buffalo were real!
How exciting to visit this park and take in how much it has to offer and the best part...it is all free! I must also add that the park is patrolled constantly to ensure safety at all times. If interested in visiting, the park is located at: 12303 Sonnier Street Houston, Texas 77044.

What a beautiful day it is in Crosby, TX today!! I love this time of year...the birds are chirping, flowers beginning to bloom, spring sports are already in full force all around town...what a wonderful way to start spring break! It is this time of year that I look forward to the most as a Realtor! I almost feel like a child on Christmas morning...waiting with anticipation for the exciting faces to just pop out at the prospect of finding a new home...you know that giddy feeling, kind of like the feeling we would get as children when would go over a hill too fast and the butterflies would begin to flutter in our stomachs...yep, that's the feeling. As a Realtor that is one of the best feelings in the world. Experiencing that excitement on a daily basis with clients.
I was showing a home in Newport a couple of days ago...it was our third home for the day to see together. Newlyweds, just starting out. I think they were so excited at the prospect of having a home that was all their own that I could have shown them a cardboard box and they would have been excited. We had five homes on our list to tour that day but that quickly changed when the door opened to home number three. That was it. They knew it and I knew it...without even saying a word. Situated in the middle of a cul-de-sac, fresh flowers planted, freshly painted shutters on the windows, mahogany door...but there was something else...something else that told us that this one was "the one". We couldn't quite place it but we all knew the moment we walked in that this would be where they would start their new life together...as we were leaving, the young lady turned and looked at me and smiled...she said, "All I know is it feels like home".
Home...the word home just feels good doesn't it??!!
