Hosted every year Memorial Day week, Fleet Week New York is the City's celebration of the sea services. This annual event also provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team.

CELEBRATE JOHN AND YOKO’S BED-IN FOR PEACE- 40th ANNIVERSARY

CELEBRATE JOHN AND YOKO’S BED-IN FOR PEACE

8 PM MAY 12 AT THE GERSHWIN HOTEL

WITH FREE EVENING OF MUSIC & PHOTOGRAPHS

When John Lennon and Yoko Ono took to their beds in 1969 in Montreal to give peace a chance, one Brooklyn-born photographer, Gerry Deiter stayed the entire time to chronicle the now historic moment in pop history.

Timothy Leary and his friend Crawdaddy! Magazine founder Paul Williams made a pilgrimage and were part of the recording of Give Peace A Chance.

Along with Tommy Smothers and a gaggle of fans, media and students, the song went around the world. Deiter was on assignment for Life Magazine.

Tuesday May 12 at 8 pm join Neke Carson, Michael Wiener and the regulars at the Gershwin Hotel 7 East 27th Street for an evening celebrating the 40th anniversary and the launch of a new book Give Peace A Chance that documents the historic week in pop history.

Author Joan Athey will give a sneak preview of some of the images that will open June 12 at the Museum at Bethel Woods on the site of the Woodstock Festival; Life Magazine writer Charles Childs reads from the interview done at the time; poet Leanne Averbach reads, local musicians Gary Lucas and Steven Lynch rock the room celebrating Lennon’s contribution to peace. Climb into a bed and share your thoughts with others, just like John and Yoko.

The evening will give Paul Williams’ family a little peace of mind. Part proceeds from book sales and a silent auction of a limited edition print from the book will help raise money to assist with his battle with dementia as a result of an accident.

Refreshments are generously provided by Chang Beer. Event sponsored by the Gershwin Hotel.
