1. Loan Modification , this maybe available to homeowner that still has income but had an event that has cause a Hardship. Option include reducing Interest down to 1% for up to several years, creating a no interest loan for 6 months and then set at 5% and many more based on your Mortgage holder
2. Short Sale, if you are not earning or you just want out, then this is the next based option to avoiding foreclosure. This process requires you to list your home at market value and takes 60 - 90 days after you accept an offer for acceptance. I have had short sales slow down foreclosures for some of my customers for over 6 months, based on the offer many lenders are willing to offer relocation assistance from $2,500 - $5,000.. Update Feb. 4, 2008 - The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007 generally allows taxpayers to exclude income from the discharge of debt on their principal residence.
