Who doesn't want to have some down time and do something fun? Well, I tried something new last week and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. It was paint your own pottery. I am involved with Big Brother/Big Sister and my little sister and I went to www.TheCeramicStudioEtc.com and painted our hearts out. Trust me, an artist I am not, but when I picked up my pottery today, I actually knew what it was! If you don't live in Livingston County MI, I am sure your area will have a similar type studio. Here we go again...Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of MI is looking to raise their rates on independent insurers....like me....a self employed person! This must be my reward for staying in Michigan and working harder to make a living! Geez, can't BCBS just do what the rest of us in Michigan have been doing? Tightening our belts and working our business? BCBS want to raise our rates and have requested to do so with increases on monthly premiums going up to 40%. Aren't they suppose to be a non-profit tax exempt company?? BCBS won't provide me with better insurance with the rate increase. Now, if the car companies or restaurants raised their prices and you didn't receive anything special to account for the increase, would you feel like you were getting squeezed:)
I wrote Mike Cox, MI Attorney General, and believe it or not I received a response! I am asking-NO BEGGING- everyone to please call the Consumer Service Division at 1 877 999 6442 ask for Karen Dennis and ask them to VOTE against the BCBS rate increase request. We have to stop the madness and greed!

I admit it...I am a big baby, but when REMAX Platinum in Brighton MI sponsored a Red Cross Blood Drive, I thought to myselft~JUST DO IT! Today I donated blood for the first time in my life and I can tell you it won't be the last time. The process is explained to you thoroughly and it really is painless. Not only that, you get juice and cookies after donating. A word of advice if you plan on donating blood, drink plenty of liquids 24 hours before. Now go to www.RedCross.org and find out where the nearest blood drive is....give the gift of life. You never know when you may be the recepient.

It pays to chat to people! I was at a closing today and the lender was talking about a new program that Bank of America is offering to new buyers. If you obtain a mortgage through them you have a one year Borrowers Protection Plan--free for the first year of your mortgage! This plan helps alleviate some of the stress some buyers may have if they are on the fence on whether to take the plunge to purchase a home or wait due to the economic uncertainty with employment. I don't have all of the particulars--I am not a loan officer--but the gest is that many of their mortgage products include the Borrowers Protection Plan, an optional loan protection feature that can help safeguard against sudden income losses that can result from unexpected events, such as disability, hospitalization, involuntary job loss and loss of life.
