Here we go again....of course the government wants more of our money....of course my broker wants more of my money.....of course everything is more expensive today...or is it?
More importantly, while my commission dollars are down (due to decreased home prices) Blue Cross/Blue Shield has put in a request to raise rates on individual lines of insurance. This rate targets individual plans as well as three plans for supplemental Medicare plans ( that is the reward Seniors get for living sooo long). Oh, they don't want to raise rates by a couple of percentage points lets talk 24% up to 41% Are they kidding! Please we need to stop the madness! If the rate increase goes unchallenged, the new rates will begin June 1, 2009. According to Blue Cross they NEED to do this increase due to a $Billion Dollar loss in business forcasting into the next 3 years. Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is challenging those financial projections stating they are being exaggerated to help push for a legislative overhaul of the individual insurance market in Blue Cross's favor. Hey, I don't know about you, but if I told my clients rates were increasing by 25-40% you can bet your bottom dollar they would NO longer be my clients. Blue Cross has me by the NECK....I need health insurance, because according to the government I make too much money--please explain that to my creditors. Please contact Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox and the Office of Insurance & Regulations~take a stand tell them NO MORE!

If you have been reading some of my blogs, you know that I am vigilant when it comes to finding information on affordable health care. There are personal reasons behind my interest in this subject. One being that I have a chronic illness which translates into monthly perscription costs, and in the past being blackballed from health insurance. Anyways, good news for those without health insurance or those who are under insured.
A group of doctors have formed a practice in which they do not accept insurance. This group of physicians offer $59 flat-rate office visit, cash or credit. PrimeCare Medical Centers is one of a small and growing number of area medical practices that offer flat-rate fees and low-cost services hoping to capture the market created by the high cost of health care insurance and the underemployed or unemployed population. Scheduling an appointment is just as easy has making a hair cut appointment! Meadowbrook Urgent Care in Birmingham has a new program which offers discount health care that give paitients unlimited visits for $49/month. Don't want to do the monthly group program, that is okay too, to see a doctor for a doctor visit the office charge is $80. STILL CHEAPER THAN WHAT MY DOCTOR CHARGES! They also offer prescription refills on site at $10 and have a pricing structure for other treatments such as $25 XRAY. Trust me, I will be calling them for my mammagram....my insurance doesn't pay for that!
I applaud these physicians for coming up with an idea, while everyone sits around waiting for government to step in and help with the health care crisis! While the idea was initially created to capture additional revenue for the doctor's pockets, they are really helping a lot of people who otherwise would wait to visit a doctor until they needed to visit an emergency room.
With the price of gas dropping.......you can even afford the ride over to one of their offices!

Congratulations! You have a signed purchase agreement and it actually looks like the deal is going to go through.....now what? You need to begin thinking about moving all of your belongings from the dog house to the ugly Wedding gift you received from Aunt Betty. Well, here are some tips to help make the move easier.
Are the movers licensed and insured? If not, move on. You have no guarantee you'll be covered should something get broken or lost. Wouldn't you hate for Aunt Betty's ugly wedding gift to get broken?
Do you know what is insured? This is important to know and understand. Basic "released value" insurance holds the mover liable for about 60 cents per ound. Purchasing "full value protectinon" replaces lost or damaged items at market value.
Is the estimate firm? Binding estimates are firm estimates of exactly what your final cost will be. Non-binding estimates are figures that may increase significantly on moving day.
References? A good moving company is happy to provide a list of previous customers to contact for references. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against the prospective mover.
Thinking about moving? Call me at 810.844.2280 and let me help you make your real estate dreams a reality!
