Hospice - An Incredible Organization

Coastal Hospice

Wishing all my congratulations to the Committee Members of "The Blues On The Bay II Committee" for their successful fundraising event held this evening at Macky's Bayside Bar & Grill in Ocean City, Maryland.

This wonderful group of people put together a wonderful event for the benefit of our local Coastal Hospice currently working out of Wicomico County. There was great food, great music and great fun for all. Our local Hospice has a three phase plan to open a new multi functional facility in Worcester County. With such wonderful individuals in our community, I have no doubt that we will fulfill our goals.

My apologies ahead of time if I left anyone out:

Second Home Real Estate Market

NAR's (National Association of REALTORS) 2009 Investment and Vacation Home Buyers survey shows that second home buyers tend to be more confident about today's housing market.

Second homes accounted for 30 percent of all home transactions last year, down from 33 percent in 2007 and 40 percent in 2005 - the peak year for home speculation. NAR's chief economist Lawrence Yun said, "That it was expected that vacation home sales would fall given the impact of a declining economy on discretionary purchases". Yun noted that a steady share of investment home sales came from buyers who took advantage of deeply discounted prices.

Despite the drop off, demand for second homes remains favorable because a large segment of the population is in the prime age group for buying a vacation or investment property. Most people become interested in buying a second home in their 40's. There are currently approximately 44 million people in the United States in their 40's. Another 30 million are in their 30's.

NAR's survey shows that second home buyers are tending to be more confident about today's housing market: 80 percent of respondents said now is a good time to buy, compared with 71 percent of primary home buyers.

The typical vacation home buyer was 46 years old, had a median household income of $97,200 and purchased a property that was approximately 316 miles from their primary residence; 35 percent were within 100 miles and 36 percent were 500 miles or more.

It's The Little Things In Life

The older I get, the more I realize and value the little things in life that really are the most important. A bright sunny day, a beautiful bird flying by my window, a great meal, listening to the sound of laughter, giving someone else a reason to be incredibly happy, or happening to catch a glimpse of a rainbow. A gift that is incredibly precious is that of the smile of a child. Today, a very special little girl gave me some big smiles, and they are absolutely priceless.

Boardwalk Stroll in Ocean City, Maryland

I spent a wonderful afternoon on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland on Mother's Day. It was a warm and beautiful day, and it is beginning to look and feel like summer at the beach.

I want to take this opportunity to wish all the Mom's out there a very Happy Mother's Day. Mom's are the corner stone of our lives and they should always be recognized...not just on one specific date.

Enjoy your day!

Kids Are Kids At All Ages

Chris and Catie

For years my kids have posed in their "dress up clothes" as they have primped and fussed about their appearance before attending a landmark event in their lives. The biggest of those events being their Prom or a Homecoming dance. Now it's been a while since they've been in high school (Stephen Decatur High - right outside of Ocean City, Maryland)....but some things never change.

My son, Chris, traveled home this past weekend to attend a friend's wedding. He brought a date with him, and probably not as much to my surprise as it should have been, he needed his shirt ironed by Mom, wanted approval on the tie and his "ensemble" in general.... and most importantly wanted his picture taken at the house right before they left to go out. I have to admit, I found myself rather nostalgic. Chris is now 27 years old and his prom days have been gone for a while, but still maybe deep down he wanted that little sense of déjà vu.

Here's to Chris and Catie....who both looked awesome!
