The Very First Time...Heck Yes I was Nervous, Anxious, Inexperienced...But It Was Exciting.

Do you remember your first time?

Everything was new and different but you were young, full of vim andsunset moon rise, drews lake dusk vigor. Ready to take on the world. As I approached the Maine lake cottage,  and fumbled, breathing hard and finally got the car door with the magnetic sign stuck to it open, I noticed her "layout". She was 36-24-36....

(Bring up the Commodores "Brick House" song in the background please) and I gulped.

Here I go..this is it. Not really worried about performance anxiety, I was ready. But this was the first time, solo, for all the marbles.

I knocked on the door and Mr. Varney answered with a smile.

Come on in, let me show you around. She was 36 feet long, 24 feet wide and roughly 36 feet from the edge of Drews Lake in Linneus Maine. (Record stratching sound as Commodore's "She's a Bricccckkkkk Hhhhhouse" song has needle ripped across vinyl..then silence, a pregnant pause.) Hey, wait a minute..what did you think I was talking about? This was my first Maine real estate listing back in the spring of 1980. A ranch style lake camp down over a hill a goat would have to concentrate long and hard on to negotiate. Going down was easy, the climb out of there, not so much fun...even for a young Houlton Maine real estate broker in his early 20's.

The owner said he picked me because I was new, wanted to give me a chance. He had just gotten new glasses and said he went to a brand spanking new doctor for the same reason. What was your first experience all about...the very first real estate listing you ever took? To start your career, to market and sell? No doubt you resold the same place as you stuck with the profession. This lake camp for $7500 was something we resold four times over the following 15 years. Multiple sales until the current owner indicated it would only be sold again when they took her feet first out of the back door. Hope the ambulance attendants have hiking books and know a little technical climbing skills though..this one was down over the bank...on the side of Drews Mountain in Linneus ME.

Real Estate Shows From California...Reality Real Estate Done With Million Dollar Price Tags.

Last night as I surfed the Direct TV channels, landed on a show featuring California real estate brokers.

maine fall foliage colors, me lake front real estateAgents working in the Malibu area. The show features agents in pretty nice cars, that seem awfully young wrestling with high end owners to get them to come down on their real estate price expectations. One broker in a BMW, another in a Porsche, the other in a Mercedes. A little different than Maine where you have a four wheel drive jeep, a Subaru, a Chrysler mini van to do dual duty for kid's soccer games, family hockey tournaments.

I believe the statistic of only nine homes sold over a year of marketing in what was a swanky area around a Golden Triangle was batted around as a figure making everyone sober, humble, hungry.

When you can buy a quality ME home for $54,900 like this one, a ME lake lot on a blog post we just did in the teens like this one, it is hard to think of 3.2 milllion for a home, jammed wall to wall with ones on all four sides. And all those zeros.

You could buy 20,000 acres of ground, of land in Maine for those kind of numbers. Maine..it's a whole lot less expensive, simple living for a change. Money is not the reason you move here..and you won't need to bring a lot. Maine, where you won't need a mortgage if you bail out of the expensive area you live now.

Maine..if you are looking for elbow to elbow crowded conditions..you won't find that here. Leave it all behind..run away to Maine..the way life should be.

Maine Land Real Estate Buyer Calling From England This Morning..Emailing Back And Forth.

Selling Maine real estate can be like a geography lesson at the same time.

A ME land buyer from maine map, aroostook county locationColchester Englandwants to own some property in "Vacationland". He and his wife have some Florida property and want to cover the corners..land some land in Maine. Maybe the corner of Washington state is the next target to buy. He told me Colchester England was the oldest recorded town in the Commonwealth, that was an extension of the Roman Empire, and the capitol of England before London. Relax class..there will not be a test, or surprise quiz on any of this.

The point is your real market is not the immediate area..it is worldwide. So your write ups, your videos, podcasts should have bits and pieces of the area weaved in to them. Don't assume everyone knows your area.

And in the process of telling them about the area in your copy, on camera and with your imagery...you brand yourself as the local expert for real estate, and for any questions about the local area you serve. The place you are excited about living, working, playing in.

History lesson is over for today (bell ringing, books being folded shut, chairs squealing as they get pushed back and scramble to next class starts). This English land buyerwho made two offers today, who has seen the videos, full splash propaganda on acreage said the prices are sooo much lower and properties so much larger here in Northern Maine. Have had other European land buyers exclaim the same observation as they kick real estate tires on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Also, a three acre rolling lawn around a typical Maine farm would never be seen in England many report. That land is precious, would be growing vegetable and fruit to eat by the property owner. With  Aroostook County's 11 people per square mile (NJ is 1000, AK is 1), we have space, wildlife infested woods, unspoiled beauty and room to roam. That's what the overpopulated world is thirsty, hungry for. That's why local Maine community videois imperative to put Aroostook County on the map, to showcase the area, not just the property.

Your Job, Do You Go Thru The Motions..Same Old Same Old Or Do You Have Fun, Re-Invent?

You've met folks at a company or business who are in another solar system..talking but not connecting.

But once in a while you find a person who goes above and beyond. Not always in service but with their approach, their sense of humor. Their "let's make the most of the situation" shines thru.  Had a problem uploading the extra 17 real estate images to our enhanced realtor.com site this week. The Alycia I talked to was not fun, or helpful. She did want to talk about other products we could buy when all I really wanted, needed was to get the enhancement I already paid for, that had stalled, to work properly.

A recall with another realtor.com rep named Crystal was night and day.

She stayed on the line while we tried the upload again, wanted to know the error message we received and called me back with a test on her end with the same images that would not stick. She got the same error message, sent up a ticket and I enjoyed working with her. She liked her job and is good at working with people. People with problems. Meanwhile, here's a fellow who is good at his job, his sense of humor shines thru instead of delivering a monotone, standard talk to his customers. Watch what we mean with this Southwest Airlines flight attendant.

Do you have fun at work, does it show thru loud and clear? Maybe you need a career change if work feels like work. Think the video is cute, fun but no big deal? Imagine your company gets 2,426,910 views on Youtube of positive, warm FREE advertising for your airline, Southwest. This guy likes his job, is helping his company and is a 180 degree different approach to something standard, ordinary because of his creativity and showmanship. Reward that guy with another bag of pretzels, free head phones for life.

Maine Towns Around Houlton ME Include Hodgdon, Linneus, Littleton, Ludlow In Southern Aroostook County.

Northern Maine is relatively young.

In the case of Houlton Maine, Joseph Houlton cruised in just after the maine potato house worker, maine youthturn of the century in the early 1800's. The towns around Houlton are all pretty much square..6 miles by 6 miles with a exception of New Limerick, Ludlow and Cary Plantation which are 3 miles by 6 miles. Unlike southern Maine which is much older and different shaped as the large tracts became smaller out parcels as folks developed the area, northern Maine is square, very logical and straight forward in the layout of the local real estate. Houlton Maine to the east, is right on the Canadian border with New Brunswick, the gateway to the Atlantic provinces.

Bordering Houlton Maine on the north is Littleton, on the west New Limerick and Ludlow and to the south, Hodgdon.

The Houlton Maine school district of SAD 29 serves Houlton, Littleton, Monticello and Hammond Plantation. The population of Houlton is roughly 6700 and the bedroom communities around it have much smaller populations. The major shopping and industrial sector for Southern Aroostook County is in Houlton, the county seat. Aroostook County is the largest of Maine's 16 counties. For more on the Houlton Maine area. For local videos of the region. The Houlton region is served by HRH for medical services. Local youth help the Maine potato farmer harvest the crop, learning work ethic and earning money to help their family budgets at the same time.
