We recently had a fire in a detached garage. The garage is heated with a wood stove and a chimney fire occured. Luckily, we were not gone for long. According to fire officials, the garage could have been a total loss if not for the fact that the walls and ceilings had been sheetrocked. Building codes dictate that homes with attached garages must have walls adjacent to home sheetrocked with firecode sheetrock. If there is living space above the garage, the ceiling must have firecode sheet rock installed too. It would be my recommendation to sheetrock the entire garage. This will protect the structure better and give your family more time to get out. Safety first.
With so many homes on the market, buyers have a lot to choose from and can afford to be picky. Fresh paint with nuetral colors and shampood carpets can make the difference over a similar property that has not been freshened up. Pressure washing the home can make the outside more appealing and gets rid of the "green" stuff growing on the north side of homes in New England. Pressure washing decks and patios will make them shine. These improvements are not costly and the benefit far out weighs the effort.
