52nd Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament Update- Day 2
What a day it was on Monday! If you were living under a rock then you might not know about the record breaking Blue Marlin that was caught yesterday at The Big Rock tournament. The crew aboard the Citation out of Hatteras brought in the record breaking Blue Marlin weighing 883 lbs. The Citation made it to the dock around 7 p.m. on monday. Seems to me that everyone else is fishing for second and third place.
This monster blue marlin gave the crew a first catch bonus check of $318,750. It was very exciting watching the weigh-in. I guessed the weight to be 595 lbs. as it was being hoisted up. I was watching via the web I must say and I probably would have guessed higher in person. Either way I would have been wrong, and I am glad I was. This certainly was a life changing catch and I can't wait to see what else is brought in this week at The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

52nd Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament starts today June 14,2010
Today is the start of the best Blue Marlin tournament in the country as far as I am concered. The Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament started today in Morehead City, NC. This year the field has 156 boats competing for a large purse of $1,664,450. Who knew fishing could be so lucrative? This tournament isn't for the weak of heart or the weakest of pockets.
You may be able to get a few guys together and scrape up the $18,000 entry fee, but getting the million dollar sportfish boat and thousands of dollars worth of rods and reels may be too large of a hurdle to jump. The payoff coud be huge though. Last year the crew of the Sea Creature captured the top spot with a small blue marlin weighing 466 pounds that earned them $746,820. That's not a bad return on an $18,000 investment. This year the Big Rock Blue Marlin winner would collect $912,825 if entered in all levels.
I have had the opportunity to be around this tournament many times and even if you don't win or place anywhere in the Big Rock tournament it will be the best week of your life. The friends, the excitement, the pressure, being out on the open water fishing for the most beautiful fish in the water, how could it get any better.
As of 2:30 today only one release and that was on the Carolina Lady at 1:02. The Big Rock continues through the week and I will be updating as the week goes on.
