During September 2009, 52 residential properties closed escrow. The average sale price was $261,996. Twenty Five percent (or 13) of the residential properties that sold were bank owned and 6% (or 3) were short sales. Are you looking for something to do this weekend? If so here is a sampling of what is happening this weekend:
27th Fiddle and Bango Contest
Music will once again fill the streets of Columbia on Saturday, October 3 beginning at 10:30 am at the gazebo in Columbia State Historic Park. More than 40 musicians are expected to compete, vying for cash prizes in six categories: fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocal and miscellaneous. All ages and music genres are represented. Contestants sign up from 9 - 10:30 am. Entry fee is $10 per category. Spectator admission is FREE. Bring lawn chairs, hats and sunscreen and gather around the gazebo on Main Street. The contest is sponsored by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and gets its name from a misprint on contest T shirts many years ago. The Annual Twain Harte Oktoberfest
The festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th , in downtown Twain Harte. Admission is FREE. Artists booths will wind around Eproson Park. Live entertainment on the main stage will include Crazy Ivan on Saturday, the Blues Box Bayou Band on Sunday and juggler-comic Mitchell Barrett both days. There will be beer and food tasting on Saturday from Noon to 3 pm. There will be wine, beer and food tasting on Sunday from Noon to 3 pm. New this year is a German Car Club gathering. The Annual Columbia Cemetery Tour
Friends of Columbia Sate Historic Park will sponsor this event on Saturday, October 3rd. A catered dinner will be served at 5 pm in the Morgan Room of the City Hotel, where the resident ghost, Elizabeth, will join guests for dinner. The tour, led by volunteers in costumes and lighted by lanterns, will depart at 6:45 pm for the Columbia Cemetery, where visitors will meet the town's early residents, represented by costumed volunteers, and learn how this became their final resting place. Tickets are $50 and are available at the Columbia Museum or by calling 209-532-3184. Guests are limited to 25.
The 33rd Annual Sonora Bach Festival
This annual event begins Sunday, October 4th with Bach's Brunch and a youth concert. The festival continues with a salon concert on Saturday, October 10th and local concerts on Sunday October 11th at various locations in and around Sonora. Tickets are available at Mountain Bookshop and Sonora Music. For more information, call 209-536-6330 or www.sonorabach.org.
