I began my real estate career in late 2008. After speaking with all the "Bigs" in the industry, I decided to
go to a small independent company in Greenville, SC called New Way Properties. It was a company that started in late 2004 and had quickly become one of the top independents in the area. It was a company that was creative in its ideas as well as giving each agent more freedoms and the ability to be creative on their own. These are the characteristics that sold me on this company, not to mention our office is in Downtown Greenville with a great store front.
I found out just recently that New Way Properties will soon become part of Keller Williams Realty. This will be a huge transition for everyone in the office and big changes will be coming over the next few weeks. Joining a large firm like Keller Williams will definitely fill in some of the gaps that a small independent company has, like limited resources and technology.
For me this transition is creating more answers than questions though. Is Keller Williams the right company for me? If not Keller Williams, then who? It is only a change that I want to make once and weighing all the different aspects of the different companies has definitely shown where each company's core strengths are.
My decision will have a huge impact in the future of my business. It is extremely important that the decision I make is the right one. Other factors definitely come into play other than commission structures. Which company will provide me the best opportunity to grow my business in the near and long term future? Which company has the best technology? Which company has the best corporate relationships? These are all questions that I will answer in the next few days and weigh among each company. Whatever company I choose, I am presented an opportunity to improve. Only time will tell how much improvement that decision will make on my business.
Tonight, Downtown Greenville, SC is hosting the first GOP 2012 Presidential Political Debate at the Peace Center. Over the past year Greenville has been honored by several top magazines, such as Fortune Magazine and Men's Journal, as being one of the top places to live in America. People have definitely taken notice. As a local real estate agent, I have seen an influx of buyers from out of state.
Top name candidates like Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Tim Pawlenty will appear tonight. While it is still too
early to make any final decisions, this debate will shed some light on what these candidates are all about. Some other top name candidates like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have yet to announce a candidacy so some luster is lost.
You may ask what this has to do about real estate? For me the answer is simple. Once again, Greenville will be highlighted across America and the more our town is in the news (for positive things), the more people want to visit and ultimately call Greenville home. Let me be the first to say Greenville is a great place to work and live and this is what we are all about. Greenville's hot job market is attracting people from all over who are looking for employment. There are over 200 Fortune 500 companies like BMW, Michelin, GE, Fluor-Daniel, Milliken and Bausch & Laumb. Greenville is consistently ranked as one of the top places
to retire with its mild climate (avg daytime high of 70) and unique shops and restaurants. For the young professional, minor league sports and downtown events are the big draw. The Greenville Drive, the Boston Red Sox affiliate, consistently have one of the top attendance rates of any minor league team. With events like Artisphere, Euphoria, Fall for Greenville, Freedom Weekend Aloft and the Nationwide BMW Pro Am Golf Tournament, there is plenty to do year round. Everyone who makes Greenville home loves its central location. Lake Keowee and Hartwell are just a 30 min drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains is an adventure only 35 minutes away. Atlanta and Charlotte are just an hour and a half each, while Historic Charleston and the South Carolina Beaches are only 3 hours away. Because of these draws, Greenville's real estate market has remained stable. What else can I say?
How many people watch or how many people care about the debate is not what I am interested it. What I care about is that Greenville is once again the center piece and is beginning to make a name for itself. It is only a matter of time before Greenville's stable real estate market soon gives way to demand and appreciation right?
