Seniors Move is Special

01-22-10
Nancy Austin

One of the things I love is helping seniors move. In fact, I enjoy it so much I have the SRES designation, Seniors Real Estate Specialist. Seniors are the last great generation. I love their honesty, loyalty, dependability, responsiveness, and honesty. Thir fiscal responsibility is to be envied. Most have their homes paid off, with an occasional exception of a small equity loan, usually used for minor renovations.

The process of moving for seniors is a slower one. Often family members are helping sort their parents' "stuff". There are items that need fresening, such as paint and carpet. Knick knacks need to be thinned out and packed away. Whatever the service they need, I seem to have a good, reliable connection.

What is sad is when there is no family nearby, or no family at all to help. This is when I enlist the aid of my resources to give them a hand. Seniors know they can trust anyone to whom I refer them.

Mrs. Hughes is Hilarious

Someone recently sent me a video of Mrs. Hughes. I had never heard of Mrs. Hughes. For all I knew she could have been a neighbor. But it turns out she is one of the funniest persons I have ever seen. Because I'm not one to usually like a stand-up comedian, this is a milestone for me.

Right now, I'm trying to put the Theater for the Performing Arts at Cherry Hill Village in Canton, in touch with her so we can try to book her for a performance.

Has anyone ever seen her in person, or anywhere? What little I saw on the video, I believe it would be worthwhile our effort.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your opinions.

Single Women Love to Nest

Did you know ...

By the year 2010, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac estimate that approximately 31 million single women will be homeowners.

I love working with single women ... here's why. It is quite a rewarding experience. They are decisive, independent, as well as having the traits of a buyer which include the following:

  • Women are well organized. They are prepared financially and emotionally for buying a home.
  • Women usually have a steady pattern of saving money.
  • Women like to be near family, friends, people, shops and restaurants.
  • Women prefer not to have a long commute to work.
  • Women Most often, will buy condominiums.
  • Women look for homes/condos which are low maintenance.
  • Women do not look for handy-man specials.
  • Women who are divorced may be offered the status of first-time buyers for mortgage programs.
  • Women prefer two or more bedrooms.
  • Women prefer having their bedrooms upstairs.
  • Women look for an environment where they will feel safe.

I work with a lender, Beth Lundy from National City, who has a women's program, Journey Home, which offers valuable information for female home buyers. To find out more about this program contact me. It's a real winner.
