Maple Grove is one of the state's fastest growing and dynamic cities. Strong City management and excellent location has allowed high quality residential, commercial and industrial growth to take place. Portions of the City still have a unique rural flavor and the City has an exceptional parks and recreation program with over 40 developed parks. Maple Grove is truly one of Minnesota's most exciting cities.
Maple Grove is located in the north central part of Hennepin County and during its early history it was inhabited only by the Winnebago Indians who were relocated by the Federal Government. The were moved from Wisconsin because at the time Maple Grove was devoid of people. In 1851, Louis Gervais and Pierre Bottineau changed that perception when they were the first settlers to staked their claims in Maple Grove. They were protected from land speculators and were allowed to buy their claims at the fair market price.

City Government: Between 1858 and 1863, Maple Grove town meetings were held in private residences. The first town hall was purchased in 1877. The original structure was sold to the highest bidder for highest bidder for $23.00. It was later destroyed by a tornado 1939. The next town hall still stands today and it is being used as a community building. The town was incorporated in 1954 and became a city in 1974.
Early Businesses: Some of the early businesses in Maple Grove were stores, dance halls, horse racing tracks, creameries, and sawmills. Gramberts general store was somewhat of an early landmark and was located at County Road 30 and State Highway 101. Built in 1929, it was run by several different owners and was finally torn down in 2004. There was also a cheese factory, a train depot, and a rail siding along the most traveled road in Minnesota, Territorial Road.
Population Growth: Suburban sprawl reached the area by the 1950s. Initially growth occurred mainly around the lakes until I-94 was built. By 1880 the population was 1,155 and in 1950, it was only slightly higher at 1,778. But then the population boomed along with the growth of the Twin Cities and by 1990, the population was 38,756.

A Brief Overview of Blaine, Minnesota:
Blaine is a booming business and residential community. It is one of the Twin Cities' fastest growing and largest communities. Between 2002-2006 we added 3,774 new housing units within the city which was the most in Minnesota. The 34 square mile north metro city has recently become a viable residential and businesses center.
Minnesota's only Olympic-class facility, and the world's largest amateur sport and meeting facility; the National Sports Center (NSC) is right here in our own backyard. The NSC is an athletic facility designed for training, competing and accommodating a variety of sporting events and activities. The USA Cup and the world's second largest youth soccer tournament are held here. The NSC also houses the Schwann's Super Rink, eight Olympic sized ice sheets under one roof. The sporting complex draws over 4 million people each year to Blaine. Our city is also the home of the Tournament Players Club (TPC) which is a private 18-hole professional golf course, designed and owned by the PGA and each year the 3M Champion's Tournament is held here in August. Blaine History:
Until 1877 Blaine was part of the city of Anoka, Minnesota. The first settler was Phillip Laddy who imigrated from Ireland. He built a home near the lake that is named after him, Laddie Lake, in 1862. Unfortunately, he died shortly after his arrival and his survivors moved away to Minneapolis. The next Blaine resident was an Englishman named George Townsend, but alas, he only lived here for a short time near the area of Lever St. and 103rd Ave.
It wasn't until 1865 that Green Chambers became our first permanent resident when he settled on the old claim. He was a former slave from Barren County, Kentucky, who moved here following the Civil War. Then in 1870 others such as George Wall, Joseph Gagner began to settle in the area and Blaine began to grow.
In 1877 Blaine was split off from the city of Anoka and organized as our own township. This is when the first election took place and Moses Ripley was chosen as the first Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. He came to Minnesota from Maine and persuaded his fellow Board Members to honor a Maine Senator and three-time presidential candidate James G. Blaine by naming the new township after him. Our population reach 128 by the year 1880 !
Because of our sandy soil and abundant wetlands, Blaine experience slower growth than many of the other surrounding communities. This discouaged farmers and Blaine remained primarily a hunting area. It wasn't until after World War II that new developments and starter homes began to spring up in the southern part of town.
Over about a 20 year peroid, our population boomed. We went from 1,694 in 1950 to 20,640 in 1970. As the Twin Cities Metro area began to grow rapidly, Blaine's hunting areas and wide open spaces lured those who were looking for a semi-suburban life style that was a short distance from both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our 2005 population is estimated at 54,020.[1]
As Interstate 35-W, State Hwy. 65, and U.S. Route 10 were developed, Blaine's accessibility to Minneapolis and ST Paul increased dramatically. That is why Blaine is considered to be an attractive location for business and residential development. We have many recent additions to our list of corporate residents, such as the Aveda Corporation, MagnetStreet and Dayton Rogers Manufacturing. The National Sports Center, an Olympic class training facility, as well as home to a TPC golf course also call Blaine home.

Welcome to Big Lake, Minnesota, 55309
The city of Big Lake is no longer a sleepy little rural community. Located approximately 45 miles from Minneapolis/St Paul and 28 miles from St. Cloud, it will soon be the home of the Northstar Commuter Rail Line. This and its close proximity to Interstate 94 have helped the town grow to 9,174 residents in 2006. Plus another 7,904 in Big Lake Township for a grand total of 17,078. There have been over 1100 single family homes built in the city since 2000 and several housing assistance programs are offered for first time home buyers and those looking to fix up their current home. The city's Community Economic Development Department has continuous updates on new businesses and redevelopment projects. When completed in 2009, the Northstar Commuter Rail Line will provide service from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis and connect to Metro Transit's Hiawatha lite-rail system. Stations and stops for the Northstar are planned in Elk River, Anoka, Coon Rapids and Fridley.
