During our latest Clayton NC Home Inspection, we inspected a brand new 3,300 sq ft house and found a wire in the main electrical panel that was overfused. An innocent mistake, but I am glad we caught it as the breaker would not trip until the circuit saw at least 20 amps (the breaker size) and the wire was only rated for 15. It is nearly impossible to build a perfect house and that is why a home inspection in Clayton NC (and all other areas) is so important. A few of the other items our home inspector noted: a smoke detector that was not electrically tied to the others, a broken shingle, caulk missing in a channel between the tub and shower (over time water will wet the drywall and wood behind that - see it frequently on older houses) and an un-supported drain pipe in the crawl space.

We inspected a home in Cary NC, 27513 zip, and found a bowed and cracked foundation wall. The wall was approximately 5 feet high and the soil on the exterior was nearly to the top of the wall (interior of crawl space was at a much lower grade than the exterior). A downspout had been dumping right next to the wall and kept the soil saturated. The pressure eventually pushed the wall inward, causing the damage (the photo only shows the water coming in on one side but the bowed and cracked area is around the corner). During our Cary NC Home Inspection, we did note a few cracks in the wall in the room above this area as well. It pays to have a home inspection done on every house - don't let this be you. We inspected a brand new house in Cary NC and found a few roofing flaws. Photo taken by our home inspector shows a junction between a roof and the house siding with a heavy bead of sealer applied. "Kickout" flashing should have been installed that would direct water away from the house siding. In its current configuation, once the caulk/sealer deteriorates (and it will), water may travel down the metal roof and go behind the siding. After that, wood behind the siding can easily become damaged. Over time, a major repair would be required. As always, a home inspection (in Cary NC and other areas). Small details make a difference. Another Raleigh NC Home Inspection in 27607. New construction and this home inspector found the overflow passage in one master bath sink had a leak. This was a cast-in, cultured marble top and these leaks are somewhat uncommon but I check them all just in case. We found a flashing issue on the roof, a defective smoke detector, a soft spot in the floor, a under-floor girder not resting on the foundation wall and several other items. My client was very pleased with hiring us as her Home Inspector in Raleigh.
