Nashua, New Hampshire - New Urbanism From Vision to Reality

future of Nashua

You are invited to participate in the New-Urbanist Development Expedition to be hosted by Alan S. Manoian, AICP.

Experience what can be accomplished to continue to make Nashua, NH the best place to live now and into the future.

On Saturday, September 13th Alan Manoian will share his vision of how the "Tree Streets" neighborhood can become a model community where residents can live, walk, ride their bikes and go to work without getting into a car.

The expedition will meet at the Clocktower Place apartments in Nashua at 10:00 a.m.

The tour will last approximately 90 minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Cost is FREE!

Alan S. Manoian is Nashua's former downtown development specialist and was assistant director of economic affairs from 1994-2003.

New Urbanism is a way of planning cities so they have more of that traditional neighborhood feel.

Instead of the car culture, where residents have to drive everywhere, the new urban neighborhood is one where residents can walk to shops, restaurants, schools and jobs.

new urbanism

Alan Manoian will make the tour come to life with his rich knowledge of the history of Nashua and the Tree Streets neighborhood. He wants the city officials and Nashua's citizens to "discover" the possibilities of what will be important to Nashua going into the future and that is why this is not a tour -- It is an "expedition."

This should be a great experience for the entire family and a great opportunity to learn more about the history of Nashua and how this neighborhood can be a model for planning into the future.

Hollis, Hew Hampshire - Eat YOUR View at Lull Farm (LOCALISM FEATURED)

 Welcome to Lull Farm

Lull Farm, LLC is one of my favorite places to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.  Lull Farm has two farm stands; one located in Hollis New Hampshire and another in Milford.

Owner, David Orde, known as "Farmer Dave," began the farm 26 years ago with about 15 acres of apple and peach trees.  Today, the Farm has over 250 acres and produces a variety of fruits and vegetables.

The Motto of Lull Farm is "EAT YOUR VIEW" ...   to remind everyone to support the farm so that it will remain a viable resource in the region.

Farmer Dave's Daughter designed a bumper sticker with the motto and she encourages everyone to pick one up and place it on their bumper to remind eveyone to support their local farms!

Lull Farm has been voted by New Hampshire Magazine readers as the best farm stand in 2007 and best place to pick strawberries in 2008.beautiful flowers

The produce is exceptional and the prices are very competitive, if not lower than other farm stands in the area.  You can find things at Lull Farm Stand that cannot be found anywhere else.heirloom tomatoes

In addition to buying local produce, parents and children can pick their own strawberries, blueberries, apples and pumpkins.  One of my favorite events is the corn maze.  Here is a list of the events at Lull Farm Stand which you will not want to miss.

  • Pick Your Own Strawberries (mid June- mid July)
  • Pick Your Own Blueberries (July-August)
  • Pick Your Own Raspberries (July-August)
  • Pick Your Own Apples (late August -October)
  • Pick Your Own Pumpkins (September-October)
  • Corm Maze (September-October)
  • Annual Pumpkin lighting (Halloween Night & following Night). Come carve with us starting three days before Halloween!

Nashua New Hampshire – Annual Folk Festival – Greeley Park

folk festival If you love folk music in the park, you are in for a treat.

Next Saturday and Sunday (August 30 and 31), the Second Annual Folk Festival will be held in Greeley Park, Nashua, New Hampshire.

The folk festival is Free!

Craig Ferreira and Chris Michaus, natives of New Hampshire had the vision to launch a folk festival in Nashua. They had the good fortune of meeting Richie Havens who told them "It's your turn."

Craig and Chris took Richie Haven's comment to heart. They wanted to promote local artists.

According to their mission statement, Craig and Chris set out to make the folk festival a tradition that will promote community among residents and become a venue for businesses to be more visible. The 2007 folk festival was a success.

There will be 14 performers who will provide entertainment at the bandstand from 1p.m. to 8 p.m on both days. You can enjoy blues, folk rock and other music genres.

For the kids, there will be games and face painting.

Plenty of food will be on hand as well. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks. T-shirts and CDs will be offered by some of the bands.

Tee Shirt Bodega is producing the T-shirts for the concert. Other businesses may be present on Concord Street to introduce themselves and tell residents about their products or services.

You can find out more about the festival, sponsors and the scheduled events at the official folk festival website. Check out the performer's bios... it looks like a great two days of music!
