southpoint mallOnce again our fair city garners merit for being a great place to live.
Durham was ranked number 3, according to Business Week as a place to for riding out the recession. Medical, the universities, the Research Triangle Park, are but a few of the reasons why our beloved city ranks so well.

The Research Triangle Park, the biggest research park in the world. Among other things, the renewal of downtown Durham is making this a great town! Also the people here are very friendly and diversity is immense. This is my second swing through this city and I gotta say, I love it here!

If your considering a move to North Carolina, please take a close at Durham. But hey, don't take my word for it. Take Business Week's. With a high inventory of homes right now and the $7500 tax credit from Uncle Sam (for first time home buyer's), now is the time to purchase a home in the Bull City!

100 Best places to live and launch a business (Durham no. 12)

CNN money has voted Durham 12 out of 100 to live and start a business! Wow! Durham out of Triangle? How do you like them apples?

Of course with the tech and bio and research companies here it would make sense that Durham was rated as such. Let's not forget Duke Basketball!

All of this diversity makes Durham a great place to start a business or just to meet nice people in general. There's plenty to do; a stroll in Brightleaf Square which has nice shops and some great pubs to drink a pint on a hot summer day; Ninth Street has cool shops and restaurants as well. Of course Southpoint Mall in South Durham is probably one of nicest malls in the state.

I took a drive in South Durham last night and saw all kinds of building activity just south of the Research Triangle Park. This is great because Durham is really looking nice! Downtown is getting better and better everyday. The outer neighborhoods are starting to look nice as well. With affordable housing and workspaces, Durham will continue to blossom into a great city to live and work.

Places to check out include; American Tobacco District, Duke Gardens, 9th Street, Southpoint Mall, Museum of Life and Science.

So if your looking to relocate to NC please visit Durham! You'll love it here!

North Carolina may Escape Recession, Triangle Real Estate

More great news for North Carolina and for those planning to relocate to the Triangle. Although the state's unemployment rate reached a 16 month high of 4.9 percent in January, economists say that North Carolina is doing well enough to avoid the the recession.

According to a senior economist at Wachovia Securities, the state's economy "is still growing although at a slower pace." The state has gained about 5400 jobs, while the whole nation has lost 60,000.

In Durham 80 percent of companies have said they plan to add workers in the second quarter this year. While 13 percent of Raleigh companies plan to add workers, 20 percent are planning cutbacks. Greenville and Rocky Mountain are among the highest with 40 percent and 20 percent of companies planning to add workers.

This great news. A strong job market can help the housing the market, drawing people from other states, growing the housing sector. Of course housing markets in other states are preventing the sales of those houses, preventing the potential purchase of a home here, but there are still plenty people setting their sights on the Sunny Carolinas!
