PIER PARK RETAIL SHOPPING

New development opportunities and tremendous growth on Panama City Beach, Florida are already happening in the form of a new shopping complex known as Pier Park.  To call it a shopping center hardly represents the wide array of businesses that are opening here.  The News Herald published a great article about Pier Park.

Highlights from the article state that The Simon Property Group, an Indiana developer, has released a list of companies that will be part of Pier Park .... and many of these stores are opening their doors already.  New retail stores and restaurants opening at Pier Park:

· Red Brick Pizza

· Emerald Coast Photography

· Kilwin's Chocolates & Ice Cream

logo· Sunglass World

· Fish Tales

· No Regrets Stationery and Gift Boutique

· Tatoe Tots

· Mermaid Trading Co.

· Hofbrau Beer Garden

logo· Buffalo Wild Wings

· Irene & Company

· Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries logo

 marble slab· Marble Slab Creamery

· Camille's Sidewalk Café

• Bootleg Barbeque

· Starbucks Coffee Co. starbucks

Target, Panera Bread, Longhorn Steakhouse and the Grand 16 movie theater have opened already at Pier Park, and Simon Group expects about 40 other retailers to be open by March, plus anchor stores Dillard's, JCPenney and Old Navy are expected to open in March.

If you have not been to Panama City Beach for a while, or if you have never been here before, you are in for a big surprise!  All those "woods" on the northwest end of "Back Beach Road" have been cleared and developed.  This MAP will help you find Pier Park along Hwy 98 West, recently named Panama City Beach Parkway.

One of the nicest new businesses that recently opened at Pier Park is the new 16-screen movie theater owned by Southern Theaters Company.  Jane Birdwell, a spokesperson for the company was quoted in the Panama City News Herald in May when the theater opened saying that the 3,200 seat Grand 16 multiplex features stadium seating, digital sound, a game room, advance ticketing over the Internet and a specialty café which will include pizza, gourmet hot dogs, and cappuccinos and frozen coffees. The theater's stadium seating features an 18-inch height difference between each row for better viewing. "It's a fabulous location. It's breathtaking," Birdwell said.

Quieting the Naysayers: Bay County International Airport Relocation Project

Whenever progress has begun to rise up in a community, there have always been "naysayers."  You know who they are, they're the people who say,"It'll never happen, not here."  The funny thing about naysayers is that they are usually wrong.  Life goes on, progress never stops really, and people with vision always rise up and make better things happen.

And so, it has happened in Northwest Florida on the Gulf Coast in the beautiful community known as Bay County, Florida.  Out on the West End of Panama City Beach, which used to be a heavily wooded area known only to hunters and local fishermen, progress has begun.  The first International Airport to be built in the US in a couple of decades will constructed in the West Bay area of Panama City Beach.  At least, that's what we believe will happen.  A lot of money has already been spent, countless hours of meetings and planning have taken place, and naturalists have been trying to delay the new airport.  The environmental groups have brought lawsuits and petitions to stop the development of this area because it has only been home to nature until now.

banner

If the airport authority prevails it will be home to a lot of new jobs, new airline access, and the basis for unprecedented growth and development in this area.

If you've been one of those who heard the naysayers cry, "It's not gonna happen," then you should watch this video that was published yesterday on PanamaCity.com, the online news blog published by the local News Herald in Panama City.

On Thursday, February 14, the News Herald published this statement in an article by S. Brady Calhoun, news reporter from Jacksonville:

"District Judge Timothy Corrigan declined to issue a preliminary injunction against the new airport in West Bay. Several environmental groups requested the injunction as part of a lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers. The groups want to reverse a permit issued by the corps that allows the Airport Authority to build a new airport in West Bay."

Local authorities call this decision a great victory for the future airport and it has allowed progress to continue.
